Trees, gnarled and dead, whip by, shapes scattering at the chugging of the machine. Its destination was the city of Temnorapool, a small port city in the south of of Perafidion. It was late into the second day of the journey, the only previous excitement having been the stop half a day prior in order to load itself up on more coal to fill the bellows. Throughout Perafidion, there were rumours- whispers on the winds about great calamities that had struck other nations, but that seemed oh so far away to the passengers on the ships. Not to mention, the newspapers had said nothing about it. The quiet of the journey was broken by a scream. Not the scream of a person, but the scream of metal- the screech of steel pushed beyond its limit. An ear-splitting 'bang' split the gloom, and with a sudden urgency the train halted itself, further creaking and groaning as the carriages slammed into one another, as if they were dominoes a child was toying with. Now the screams that came were those of women and children, shouts and cries as the now-stationary train creaked and groaned. The great metal beast complained a few times, and a crash could be head from the back of the train, but then... All was still.

Perafidion
One of the oldest nations, Perafidion can trace a complicated lineage all the way back to the ancient days. Undergoing industrialisation, the country is hung in the balance of new and old. Trains link up some cities, but others can only be reached by long days on a carriage or cart. Sabres and rapiers compete with revolvers and muskets for dominance over the field, whilst the fashion styles are firmly held back in the days of tricorns. Generally, Perafidion's weather is fair. It is often rainy and cloudy, but generally the summers and springs are warm and wet enough to provide an adequate crop. The nation has a long spine of mountains and forests, and although earthquakes are not common, most everyone has experienced one or two in their lives. The people of Perafidion believe in a religion known as the Light. Churches, chapels and cathedrals dot the land, and the clergy is a perfectly respectable profession for both men and women to enter.
Character Sheets
Feel free to customise this as much as you want, as long as the core still remains.
Name: Perafidian names are generally similar to those of England or Germany in the 19th century. Nature based names, such as Myrtle or Rowan, or Biblical names, like Matthew and Daniel, are common. Physical Attributes: Includes age, gender, appearance and anything else you could garner simply by looking at your character. Mental Attributes: Personality. History: How has your character come to be sitting on the doomed train? Doesn't need to be too long, but a paragraph or two are appreciated. Abilities: All abilities begin at 0 and cap at 10. You have 50 points to raise your abilities, and you can lower an ability to gain more points. I haven't decided if we'll actually do rolls, but regardless this is a helpful way of classifying what your character is good or bad at.

Vitality: Vim and vigour. How healthy your character is. Generally manifests physically, with a high-vitality character potentially having a healthy glow to their skin, whilst those with low vitality might look pale and sickly.
Strength: Muscle and brawn. How strong your character is. Generally manifests physically, with a high-strength character potentially having defined muscles, whilst those with a low strength might look spindly.
Finesse: Litheness and deftness. Covers a myriad of different abilities, revolving around how much control a character has. A character with high dexterity will be stealthy, accurate and slight-handed.
Perception: Awareness and attention. Covers how well a character can use the five senses. Note that a character who is blind might still have a high perception, marking how he can use his other senses to perceive the world.
Intelligence: Acumen and aptitude. How intelligent your character is. A high-intelligence character will be able to recall information quickly and in more depth, but might not always make the wisest decisions. A low-intelligence character might not have been formerly educated (still possible in more rural areas) or be naturally on the dimmer side.
Wisdom: Judgement and savviness. How wise your character is. A high-wisdom character will be more in tune with his environment, intuit if people are telling the truth, and generally have 'street smarts.' A low-wisdom character might be ditsy or gullible.
Faith: Conviction and confidence. How fervent your character's belief is. A high-faith character will be able to stand up to horrors without blinking, whilst a low-faith character might turn tail and run.
Occult: Mysticism and wyrdness. How in tune your character is with things beyond the lights touch. A high-occult character will be far more knowledgeable about the monsters that stalk the darkness, and how to banish them from this world.
Equipment: What items your character carries on them. Weapons and armour are ranked from 0-5. Level 0 equipment are makeshift and liable to break quickly. Level 1 equipment are shoddily made and can likely carry out their function without shattering, but little else. Level 2 weapons are reasonably made and unlikely to break, but still poor-quality. Level 3 weapons are average, being sturdy enough to use consistently with regular maintenance and weapons are likely able to be co-opted for other uses. Level 4 equipment are well made and will be expensive to produce and maintain. Level 5 equipment are masterwork- toiled over intricately, oftentimes named, engraved, or otherwise made fancier. You have 7 points for equipment- with items that are not weapons or armour not being purchased with points.
