I've only ever had one character that wasn't Caucasian. Not because I'm racist, but because I'd like to be able to represent the ethnicity that I'm writing for without coming across stereotypical or racists, ya know? I'm just scared that I'll do something disrespectful and portray the character in a totally wrong way. If that makes sense.
I portray various races in my writing. I have no fear like the one you mention. I simply portray the character as a normal human being because that is exactly what any person is regardless of their race. Even in the book I am writing I have a team of twelve people who are the following races: four Caucasian males, three African men, two Caucasian females, two Asians and one Mexican. I have written out personality sheets on all twelve, whom I identify with 12 different people I know. I attempt to write their personalities based on the real life people I have assigned to these characters.
