The Absolute Comics Variety Hour is all about celebrating the little stories that can be found in the vast tapestry of our collective story. Usually only a few posts long, following a different obscure character or group each time, The Variety Hour will help to fill out nooks and crannies of the world, as both solo short stories and crossovers. Though the Variety Hour is always open to new faces, some of the stories to be told are as follows: All Along The Watchtower: What would the world be without Captain America? William Burnside didn't want to find out. After spending his formative years studying the Captain and the exploits of other heroes like Wonder Woman, Burnside would ultimately travel to Germany to gain their perspective on The American Super Soldier. While abroad, he discovered the files of one Major Kerfoot, containing what Burnside believed to be the secrets of Captain America's Super Soldier Serum. He brought his results to the American Government, believing it could push the tide of the Vietnam war in their favor, under one condition -- that he be made Captain America. All Along The Watchtower's run will follow Burnside being consumed by his identity as Captain America, losing touch with reality and spiraling out of control. Burnside will grapple with the ideas of heroism, war, identity, and his own morality as the lines between his persona and that of Steve Rogers begin to blur. Srgt. Pepper: James Jankovicz was never the smartest kid, but he always had something of an imagination. Throughout his childhood, he'd use his imagination to visit a place he called The Nowhere, populated with all manner of fascinating creatures and magics, all playthings at his command. There, he wasn't James Jankovicz, he was Jimmy Jupiter, Boy Hero! Best of all, Jimmy found he could bring certain things back with him from his trips. James is an old man, now, and finds himself reflecting upon a long life lived. It's been decades since he's traveled to The Nowhere, and he doesn't want to go back. Worst of all, something unspeakable from that time of his life seems to be haunting him, lurking around every corner, and waiting... Working For The Weekend: The spirit of The Dogwelder will not be silenced! Multiversal constant, apparently mute, possibly schizophrenic, and occasional hero, Dogwelder has found himself in Hub City, doing what he does best. But now, the bodies are piling up and everyone's fingering Dogwelder for the crime. It's up to our cynophilist hero and The Question to save the day and weld some dogs!

[SUP][SUB]
C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:
[/SUB][/SUP]

I've had this idea kicking around in my head for a little while now, and I think I want my shot at it because it represents one of the things I love about comics as a medium. A lot of the popular characters are more refined and polished, yes, but I think a lot of the time that can lead to characters being put in very small boxes, with rough edges sanded off and their characters ultimately suffering corporate sanitization. Plus, it's easier to find something really fucking weird when you look at the fringes. I think I demonstrated with Vig back in UOU that I can take a D-List character and spin a story into something that's at least fun, and I want to take this opportunity to dig through the back catalog and have a go with some characters that have caught my eye. Otherwise? I think it's a neat way to flesh out the game. Comics have had countless decades of continuity piling up to create their spiraling continuity, but we've only had the game around for a few months. I think telling smaller side stories like this will not only flesh out the universe but also give crossover opportunities between people's mains and practically any second-fiddle character of their choosing. Further, with these arcs being so constrained, it lets me lend my focus to Spider-Man instead of having to juggle two characters at once. If I went with a more traditional character, one character or the other might end up feeling strained or inconsistent, but bite-sized stories like these let me get around that particular pitfall. Plus, Uni and I can have the Dogwelder/Question crossover we've always dreamed of.

[SUP][SUB]
C H A R A C T E R N O T E S:
[/SUB][/SUP]

- I want to be clear that any character I use is open for others, whether that be continuing their story, or scrapping what I had and telling a new one. I want to have my fun and tell my stories, yes, but I absolutely don't want to do it at the expense of someone else's take as part of their grander narrative. Feel free to pick someone up from my little short stories and use them in yours, and mine can just be considered an 'Elseworlds' from then on. -Additionally, I will clear any characters I want to use with GMs first, of course. The characters above are just a few of the ones I can see myself using in the coming months as I develop these stories, but I can also see the cast shifting, expanding, or shrinking, but I'll always be sure to check in with the GMs on it.

[SUP][SUB]
S A M P L E P O S T:
[/SUB][/SUP]

A sample post that can be used in the IC if you so desire upon acceptance.
