Some details may be used for training purposes.[/sub][/h3] Tyrian Shassa was born in 3700 BBY on Corellia to a wealthy military family with ties to Corellian banking groups which placed him among the planet's elite from birth. Shassa's early childhood specifically regimented in a way that would lay his path for him to enter into service with the Republic at an early age and use it to maneuver himself into a position of political power. His personal goals were quickly quashed and replaced with the ambitions of a senatorial spot, representing his home planet of Corellia. From his earliest memory, Shassa attended the most prestigious schools and filled his free time with a plethora of the best tutors the Corellian elite could provide. Between the special attention and highly privileged life provided to him, Shassa developed a fiercely elitist attitude towards those who he felt to be inferior and a quiet disdain for non-human species in the Galaxy. Shassa's pride was continuously bolstered to dangerous levels as he excelled in whatever he applied himself to, often more due to the immense resources available to him than his own exceptionality. After completing his schooling, Shassa's predetermined path continued when he was sent to the Republic Naval College on Anaxes. From here, Shassa excelled as a tactician. Shassa's pride was often a source of contempt between the highly accomplished instructors who had predicted that his pride and disdain for the less affluent would inevitably be his downfall. College records often detail concerns about Shassa, though they were frequently overruled by his ability to outperform all expectations. Despite repeated calls for intervention by many instructors, the powers that be (who were rumored to be in the pocket of a specific Corellian banking family) demanded that Shassa's progress not be hindered; the most common excuse being the desperate need for officers with the outbreak of war with the newly emergent Sith Empire. Shassa's progress throughout the Republic Naval College remained unhindered, much to the dismay of many of his fellow trainees. Shortly after graduation, Tyrian Shassa began his career within the Republic in ernest. After completing his first assignment on a patrol frigate in a relatively short amount of time, Shassa began excelling through the ranks primarily due to the Republic's difficulty keeping officers alive while losing the war. Due to the accelerated path through the ranks, Shassa was unable to gather much of the experience that was required of the admiralty, a fact that caused his subordinates to frequently question his judgement. Shassa was often quick to shut down his subordinates if their plans contradicted his regardless of the merits they may have. Shassa's disdain for those who questioned him grew, and while he tried to keep it bridled, it would often flare up in spectacular fashion. While progressing through the ranks, many of the subordinate officers had a plethora of unfavorable names for the young officer. Shassa finally got his chance to command a fleet worthy of his inflated self image when his immediate superior officer, Rear-Admiral Jan Lessex collapsed on the bridge of his ship during a supply run. While the official cause of death was natural, many felt this was a ploy to disguise a poisoning by Sith assassins to prevent a drop of moral and trust within the ranks. Shassa's first brush with the harsh realities of leadership came during one of his first assignments as a rear admiral. The newly minted fleet was assigned with transporting logistics convoys throughout the inner rim. During the onset of the war, it was considered a to be a relatively safe post with little chance of seeing combat. But as the war progressed, Imperial raiding parties were often seen well being Republic lines and protecting logistics fleets was suddenly a dangerous endeavor. For Shassa, this was but a temporary stepping stone in what he viewed as his birthright. This first engagement nearly spelled disaster, while running security for an insignificant logistics convoy carrying supplies to Alderaan. Republic intelligence had warned of an increased threat in the region, and despite the requests of his subordinate officers to take an alternative route to avoid any potential ambush, Shassa demanded they stay the course in the name of efficiency. An admiral that was able to maintain order and efficiency despite constant danger was surely to advance further than one who hid from the first sight of danger. This choice to stay the course and avoid danger proved to be nearly fatal, as a surprise attack by Imperial forces caught the entire fleet by surprise. Before Tyrian could finally wrest control of his fleet and gain command, the raiding force has taken out two of his cruisers and boarded one of the unarmed merchant ships. His subordinates were calling for a full retreat, leaving the remaining supply ships at the mercy of the Imperial raiding fleet. In a move that would salvage his career, Tyrian's training had finally kicked in and he employed a hodgepodge of tactics with his remaining group of crippled and scattered craft. Shassa's strategy that day was luckily able to take the Imperial raiders off guard, allowing him to turn the tide of battle and protect the remainder of the supply ships. While Shassa was unable to escape the confrontation with his reputation unscathed, he was nevertheless able to snatch victory from what could only be called certain defeat. A retreat would've cost the Republic vital supplies and resulted in the death of thousands of personnel, a disaster which his officers begrudgingly credited him for avoiding. Tyrian's own opinion of himself did not emerge unscathed either, the disaster forcing him to reevaluate his approach to leadership. While not entirely humbled, his own pride was stymied and a sense of cautiousness is typically a major factor in most decisions made in the future. This new, tempered approach to his position was a boon to his career, his reigned in skills allowing him to emerge victorious in multiple confrontations throughout the war. Towards the end of the war, Shassa was becoming known as one of the rising stars within the Republic, and an illustrious target for the Imperial Navy. Several attempts to best the rising Admiral were thwarted by cunning defensive tactics and lightning fast counter attacks. As the war came to its end, the Admiral was selected to lead a Battle Group from Coruscant to assault an Imperial Fleet that they believed was going to attempt to retake Alderaan while the negotiations were ongoing. Shassa's fleet entered the system, preparing to engage a marauding fleet. When they exited hyperspace to a system devoid of significant enemy contact, Tyrian immediately recognized the trap that was about to be sprung. His attempt to reach Coruscant to deliver his report was cut short by a distress broadcast informing him that the Imperial blockade had been set up and the remaining forces were overwhelmed. The Empire had feigned attacks to draw additional Republic Naval forces away from the capital and after the Jedi had been slaughtered in their own Temple, the planet was ultimately defenseless. Shortly after, the treaty of Coruscant brought a formal end to the hostilities and the war to a close. Like many of the Admirality, Shassa was devastated that their bureaucrats would sacrifice a vast amount of Republic worlds, including his home of Corellia to see an end to the fighting. This was not a truce in his eyes, but an outright loss. The loss of Corellia spurred about another change in Shassa, now his own political goals were put on the back burner as a sudden burst of patriotism began fueling the young Admiral's ambitions. Shassa remained in the Navy after the war to ensure that the Republic would be prepared for the truce to break down that the Republic would be better prepared when the inevitable occurred.
