Keeping his eyes forward as it passed through the net. He had decided to wake up early so he could spend some time practicing on a court and not in what Crown Heights thought was good enough for their gated community. For anybody at Crown Heights who went to King’s Academy, the thought of not practicing at a proper court was laughable. Golden Lakes wasn’t too far of a drive and while it wasn’t up to par of the great parks around the country, it was about as good as J.J. could find on short notice. And good was way better than the alternative, especially since King’s Academy was due for their basketball tryouts in only two weeks. He knew he was a great prospect with a great track record in New York, but he couldn’t risk getting passed over. And even if he knew he was an easy lock for the basketball team at this weird new school in Florida, he’d rather practice than sit at home agonizing over it as he went over the same youtube clips over-and-over of ESPN talking about the upcoming season in the NBA. He just wasn't the sitting still kind of guy. He walked over to where the ball hit the ground, scooping it up. Dribbling back to the three-point line. His thoughts, however, weren’t entirely on the early morning practice of things. King’s Academy, as far as he could tell was a different type of school and the idea of how different things were honestly made him a little worried. Since he had transferred in he had experienced mandatory dances, a baseball-themed assault, and the most awkward Homecoming he had ever imagined. He was just glad that the girl he was paired with wasn’t like the girl who went apeshit in the parking lot that one day. Aaliyah King didn't seem the type to be a diva and ultimately he was happy about that despite Maya's 'lecture' making him second guess his treatment of the whole Homecoming situation. As he tried for another jump shot his phone came to life, almost right as the ball hit the ground. He immediately went to his duffel bag and looked to see who was calling him at this time in the morning; though, he had a feeling he knew who. Speak of the black devil. He sighed, hitting the ‘answer’ button. “You’re up early.” “No shit. You still at that stupid ballpark?” J.J. half-laughed as he went to grab his ball. He knew he was going to be dragged into something his sister needed from him. “Yeah. What's up?” “I’d like to check out that mall nearby. The Gardens? Be cool if you’d help make that happen. I mean, it's not like you got anything better to do. Plus, you can tell me how disappointed Aaliyah was with your stupid ass self. I've gotta know if I have to disown you.” “Yeah, fine. Was pretty much done here for the minute, anyway. I'll see you in fifteen.” He sighed as he walked back to his car. So much for practice.
