On the surface Akira appears to be a top student in all credited classes in the high school. Ambitiously achieving every challenge that is thrown at him to be a scholar. Always trying to impress yet not gloat about any of his achievements. On a basic day he is polite to his teachers, fellow students, families business partners (or could be business partners), and the Host club members. Charming to a point he tries to manipulate people to his will. So, he is able to get what he wants when he wants it. He doesn't abuse this power and he doesn't over use it. But, he keeps himself afloat and stable in the higher rankings of society. 
Akira would not be considered a liar but somebody with secrets. He just doesn't preach his life story and seems to be quiet about home life and avoids most topics of it. Unless it's simple and UN-detailed not giving much information about his life outside of school. 
He is the man though to stand there and hold the door open for you, to give you his coat if you are cold (maybe not in a charming way but a caring one), and he is the one to tend to your needs as well as his. He benefits from everything he does in some way or another or what is the point to do it? To him life is a card game you have to play them right or go all in and lose everything you have. He always plays his pieces and figures his strategy before he does anything to over the top in his nature.  
When he actually cares for you he cares...he over thinks and tries his hardest to stay cool-headed. But, if the one's he cares about are being stupid or just plain a-holes he will loose himself in his emotions. This might be since he has a younger sister and grew to having protective views especially about women in general.

Akira was born as the first and only child to the Kitamura family. The only hierarchy to his parents wishes, estate and company when he became of age. He was raised to be a gentleman and a young business man. Though, in the eleventh year of his life a baby sister came into this world. Everything seemed to flip to him when this new member of the family came home. Emotionally and mentally the world flipped upside down to him. All his parents attention went to this baby that he didn't even want to know. He didn't want a sibling especially one taking all the attention the little bit of attention he got from his parents. This corrupted Akira and drove him right into a corner. 
This caused him to feel the loneliest he ever felt and he has felt pretty lonely in the past. Barely having his parents attention since they were such hard workers and had to deal with business. He understood to a point but the main person he grew up with was Miss Amari a younger maid and nanny his parent's hired to keep Akira company.  
He started to find her annoying especially when he got into high school. Miss Amari was overly excited he got into Ouran high school even though in his mid to late middle school years he was accepted.
After starting Ouran Akira got somewhat close to his mother again. He also learned to love his younger sister and now he enjoys the play times they have together. Though, with his study, the club and wanting some alone time. Akira doesn't have much time for her. Usually at home she will follow him around and sit there silently watching him write papers, organize, figure things out for the club and even talk to him when he tries to have alone time. 
Akira is only closest to his little sister Emiri. Emiri has even found her way to the school multiple times to find her older brother and tell him something about her day. She is only six but Miss Amari has to listen to almost everything Emiri wants. This has caused many instances of Emiri wandering into middle of lectures and Akira getting a different aura.
