[@Cio] In her experience, vampires appreciated honesty. She supposed most people did, though, whether they were human or not. The beauty before her, she decided, was more complex than the other vamps she’d known. ”That’s a long walk at a pretty scary time at night. Small town for it; heading for the highway?” Beck paused and chuckled lowly. ”I’m sorry, it’s rude to interrogate a stranger. Sorry for my boldness.” She peered down the road behind them, clearly giving her an opening to run or even attack if she so desired. Beck wasn’t particularly afraid of her, even if she should have been. She turned back , ”In this economy I guess we have to take what we can get, you know? Even if it means lousy hours.” Beck smiled, and smiled genuinely. ”I’m more of a wanderer, you’ve probably seen the blue van. It’s a bit forward but if you ever want a ride to work just knock on the window; I’m never far, ‘specially this time of night.” It seemed to Beck that she didn’t want to be asked directly about vampires. That was fair, she thought, especially with the Holy Guard running around ruining the fun for everyone. Sure she was a slayer, but she wasn’t callous; plenty of vamps made better allies and contacts than tallies in a notebook. She was more than willing to meet the ravenette halfway. And, whether it was recklessness or overconfidence, she was more than confident she could fight her off if need be.
