Due to niether being registered shinobi, they were able to travel freely without fear of persecution. That was, until an old enemy of his father tried and succeeded in poisoning the older Takamori. Despite all of his mother's efforts to treat the poison and ensure his survival, it was all for naught as he passed on shortly after Masae's first birthday. Fearing that he may be targeted next, she packed up the family of two and fled toward one of the other shinobi villages before finally settling in Amegakure no Sato. Raised on stories of his father, the fantastic feats that he was capable of despite coming from a nomadic clan, the boy decided early on that he was going to become a shinobi. However the combination of his mother's disapproval of the lifestyle as well as the pressure to prove himself as a true citizen of Ame discouraged him. He was fairly close to abandoning his dream, until he learned about shinobi that chose to heal others instead of harm. Iryonin. That discover brought about a new dream, to become the world's greatest medic. Upon enterting the academy, Masae focust almost all of his free time on Chakra control and learning everything he could about medicine and anatomy.
