Jia Li wiped a bit of sweat off of her brow, feeling like her mouth had gone dry. She hadn't had any water yet that day and the feelings of dehydration were beginning to set in. She often wondered if Fire Benders grew thirsty more quickly than others, given the energy and heat their powers used. She turned and gazed behind them for a moment, glad that they couldn't spot the village anymore. Hopefully the Fire Nation soldiers would be too lazy to come out this way after them, but she doubted it was the case. Once the records were checked, they'd realize exactly who all had escaped. Her countrymen were not known for mercy, or for letting traitors escape. There was a problem with going off of the road - while it was true it would allow them to avoid the army, it almost meant that they would travel much slower than she would care for. There was a reason why the Fire Nation tended to build roads and travel on them - they sped things up and presented less hazards. They usually replaced natural footpaths, meaning that they tended to the shortest distance between cities. Then there was also the matter of potential hazards in the fields - wild animals that could attack them while they slept. "Heal, then we should head into the fields - hopefully find a source of food or water if we can," Jia Li advised.
