Amber winced at Aedre's haste in changing the subject - proof that she'd said the wrong thing. Trying to push the blunder to the back of her mind, she went with the other topic, the gym challenge.

She figured Aedre wasn't concerned with gym battles herself, since her visit to Kosei was meant to be short, but maybe her curiosity would extend to them. Going by what Amber had heard, taking on tough challenges together was a good way to earn the trust and respect of a Pokemon. Maybe this was how to train the Sableye. How fair would it be, though, to send her newer Pokemon right into a milestone battle with no experience of competing against another trainer?

[color=chocolate]"Hmm..."[/color] She glanced at her team. Aeshna zipped from side to side as if she couldn't wait to get out, while Kyra bounced around, eyes wide, tail wagging. Tacita fluttered over, nesting in her trainer's pocket, while Chalcedony scuttled across the tiles to Amber's feet, closely followed by Larimar. [color=chocolate]"You ready for this?"[/color] the researcher asked, then turned her gaze to Aedre.

[color=chocolate]"Just to make sure they are, would you be alright with a sparring match?"[/color] she suggested. [color=chocolate]"A match with the same number of Pokemon each, of course."[/color]

Not only would it be a valuable training experience, it could help take Aedre's mind off things.
