His eyes are a bright emerald green and seem to almost glow while Mitsuo is using his quirk.
PERSONALITY
On the surface, Mitsuo appears a bit on the shy side and mostly unmotivated about just about everything. He's intelligent, yet he puts little effort forth into school. He's constantly looking for social interaction, but he doesn't go out of his way to join extracurriculars or participate in any activities beyond what he has to. He's diligent enough in his hobbies or when he finds something he deems worth doing, and will actively partake in activities that he is directly invited to, but he seems to consider most actions not worth his time if he has to join in himself. While not totally socially inept, he's hesitant and unknowledgeable about interacting with others beyond a surface level, and is utterly out of his element in terms of emotional connections and deeper relationships. Mitsuo similarly lacks the interpersonal skills to effectively talk about his own problems with others, and as such has a tendency to isolate himself and "shut down" during periods of high emotional distress. This usually ends up being counter-intuitive, as he will often return from his depressive episodes worse off than he was prior to it, due to him simply lacking the means to effectively work through the causative issue himself but being unable or unwilling to reach out to others for support. This significantly hampers his motivation in most scenarios, as he believes that he will ultimately end up failing to form the social connections and sense of belonging that he desperately yearns for. While Mitsuo doesn't enjoy the social stigma and isolation that comes with having a quirk, he doesn't see it as a bad thing, though he gets a bit uncomfortable when people learn he has a quirk, even if they too have one. He also tends to dissociate himself from his quirk; rather than an intrinsic part of himself, Mitsuo sees his quirk as merely a tool - and a tool without a purpose at that. As such, he's rather apathetic about heroism; he doesn't possess any particularly strong notions of justice or heroic ideals, but rather he sees heroism as something he was forced into by his family and by virtue of merely having a combative quirk. That isn't to say he dislikes his new role as a hero-to-be, in fact he's cautiously optimistic about attending a hero school. He sees it as an opportunity to associate with quirk-possessing people similar to himself for the first time, and to hopefully find a purpose or community he can devote himself to rather than wallow away in loneliness as he had been.
HISTORY
Mitsuo was born to quirkless parents, who were left dumbfounded and horrified when his quirk manifested at a young age. He was a fairly well-behaved kid, and there were few incidents of his quirk causing any significant damage, but everyone around him was understandably wary of the kid that could shoot fireballs from his hands. This wariness extended into outright ostracism in many cases, and Mitsuo was left isolated from his peers for nearly his entire childhood. Anyone who befriended him would distance themselves from him once they learned about his quirk, and Mitsuo eventually gave up on the prospect of making friends beyond shallow acquaintanceships and resigned himself to a miserable loneliness. Despite this, he lacks vindictive feeling toward society for the most part, seeing lashing out at those who wronged him as troublesome and ultimately pointless, as he doesn't see how it would give him the acceptance he ultimately desires. Mitsuo's father, a police officer, tried for most of Mitsuo's life to instill a strong sense of duty in him to protect others, but Mitsuo's lack of any real connection to just about anyone left him without a real emotional tie to those he was supposedly meant to protect, and at best his father only inspired a hollow platitude of justice in him rather than true idealism. Ironically, his father firmly denounced quirk vigilantism, which did nothing to inspire Mitsuo to hold the values of justice or heroism any higher than trivial justifications for the law.
