These are the words one can use to describe Suzuki, A girl who keeps to herself and tries her best to not be a bother. Even during her Duels she is known to fumble her cards and act too defensively. Even going so far as to act in a way that is detrimental to herself because she refuses to discard the cards that mean so much to her even if those cards just want to protect her. Foolish as it maybe it is how she feels about those she cares about. Willing to put her own suffering second to prevent others suffering around her in her pursuit of trying to make friends. She hopes one day that she might actually do something to make her grandfather proud of her because currently she feels that shes gonna end up flunking the entry exam. History
She doesn't remember much of her early life, All she remembers really is that she was adopted by her grandfather after her parents were consumed by a fire. She tries not to let that get her down though, her parents would get upset! Still, she lived a pretty normal life up until her induction into school. Perhaps it was a result of the remoteness of the shrine and/or her lack of social skills as a result of the shrine being pretty remote. That she ended up becoming the butt of many a joke. Of course her being her and being taught by her grandfather to be polite. Never took it as a joke yet at the same time never acted in a way that would be seen as her taking it seriously. She would merely nod and smile, a simple easy to fake smile. Her own self doubts would then manifest in her alone time where she would begin to contemplate if a regular school life was for her own good. Later on, she was introduced first hand to duel monsters, a game she had only really seen around, her grandfather would sometimes stare at those cards on his small coffee table, She had no deck of her own so she thought... maybe she could borrow his. The thought in her head at the time was one of selfishness, she wanted to join in with the other kids and play. Of course the victim of bullying playing card games could only go so well. And she ended up losing her grandfathers Shinobaron card... She didn't get to eat that night when she came home, It turns out that the deck she had taken was an extremely personal token of her Grandfathers younger days, rather to put it simple, as she was told in her grandfathers fit of rage. Shinobirds was the deck that both he and his beloved played. One the baron one the baroness. And she had just gone and lost it. This would drive a wedge between herself and her grandfather that neither of them would be able to talk about to each other in person. But at the same time... it brought attention to her grandfather of his granddaughter's interest in the game itself... Perhaps that's why when she expressed interest in wishing to go to an academy he listened to her but informed her she'd need a deck of her own, as he certainly wouldn't trust her with his after last time. Now with this thought in mind, and the fact that she had to make one to be ready. Within a years time, She had to scrounge from peoples throwaways, and even demean herself into doing manual labour for cards, like mowing someones lawn for a month for a single copy of 'Monster reborn', and spending 6 months worth of allowance on a display case of Invoked. She was ready but at the same time she really wasn't ready for the entry exam that would take place, Her deck was literally all over the place, her grandfather noticed this when she showed him. He sighed, and put a hand on her shoulder. Before slipping her a small pile of cards. "These were all they could get from the fire. They were your mothers." And she would never forget flipping over the top card and reading. Null Nun & Blooming Dogwood...
