[indent]During his Genin years Benkei was known for being childish, naive, and overly-confident. But with the years tempering him and his  experiences up until his Chunin promotion, Benkei has matured into a bright, cautious young ninja. He deals in what many would consider unfitting for a ninja, believing in the good in most people. Because of his prowess he's very confident in his power to overcome his opponents. This leads to him being merciful and empathizing with his enemy whether they be good or evil. Benkei tends to have a weakness for kids, specifically little girls. They remind him of the girl he believes to be his little sister.[/indent]

[sub][b]History[/b][/sub]
[indent] One morning Rina Tanaka returned home to Konohashi with an infant in hand. She staid there for a week, avoiding questions about Benkei's father, Bokkai Uzumaki, and his current whereabouts. After a week of intense doting however, she solemnly departed, leaving only a note to greet her father and mother. Eventually Runa and Gihei Tanaka gained guardianship of their grandson through the court system. This way he could attend the academy and be recognized as a resident of Konohashi. Gihei was more-or-less ecstatic to have an "official" heir for his swordmanship while Runa carried a deep resentment towards the boy's parents. In hindsight Benkei felt that their reluctance to speak about his parents were fishy but he never doubted their reasonings so he left it alone.

At the age of nine, Benkei's grandmother finally divulged the truth about his parents. Bokkai Uzumaki was a rogue ninja whom compelled his mother to leave the city. She forsook her rank to follow him and the two stayed on the move for years. Six years ago she reappeared covered in scars and looking defeated. She staid for just a week before meeting Bokkai in the backyard and departing. When asked if he wanted to read the note, Benkei shook his head no.

As the years went by Benkei eventually graduated from the academy and earned the rank of Genin. The first half of his missions were exciting and each had taught him a valuable lesson. One had made him more aware of how powerless he was and another had reminded him of how much he cared for his teammates. How important bonds were. And his most important lesson was to control his emotions. This came in the form of a ronin who had studied under his grandfather for a time. By mocking and threatening Benkei's grandfather, while also being a overwhelming opponent, the man ended up enraging Benkei and surprisingly paying the price for it. Luckily the fight was isolated from his team. 

With these lessons etched in his heart he continued to train until he made the rank of Chunin. Lately he's felt eyes on him and upon meeting a little girl with reddish-hair by the village gate, he knows that his mother is hoping to meet him one day. Now he hopes to find his mother, starting with the letter she left.[/indent]
