Micheal activated the Exia’s flight ability to stablize himself. Even missles wouldn’t put down the Gundam. The Exia fired it’s beam gun sending out lines of pink, purple energy wildly. However, none hit their marks. The Exia dashed back in a zigzag to avoid the chain gunshots leaving a trail of green GN particles, while firing back a few potshots, but missed the mobile suit with every shot, before turning around and retreating, leaving them in the dust.

While a metal sword wouldn’t be able to pierce Virtue’s GN field, they couldn’t take any chances. The Virtue was special after all, they couldn’t risk revealing it’s secrets.

The earlier shots weren’t for the mobile suits, they were to clear away any debris remaining that could be used as cover, it was faster to leave them to Wesker and protecting the Virtue’s secrets took precedence. Killing these people wasn’t the point, but that didn’t mean that Micheal would protect them from being causalities from the other Gundams.
