His accent made her think a bit of a Bond villain, putting her slightly on edge as he spoke about their condition and his hopes that they had felt a little bit better after having the shows and home cooked food. The walls didn't surprise her or bother her - they were more or less standard for any settlement that was going to stand the test of time. His philosophizing speech didn't help with the Bond villain impression. She had slept fine in the room with Amelia and Erica. She had been convinced that Amelia would spend a fair portion of time crying - but if she had, Beatrice had been able to sleep through it. It was just another trick she had picked up from her old life. In juvi, the new girls cried all the time. Eventually, it just became background noise - and it seemed her brain still thought of it like that. Beatrice didn't extend her hand in friendship to either of them. Sure, she had made friends along the way but for the most part, they had forced the friendship on her. She wasn't the type to initiate companionship. She talked with Riley slightly as they cleaned the female showers in the morning, with Beatrice doing the job without complaint. She cleaned the showers as well as she could each time. Once more, this place reminded her of juvi - job assignments, no trading, locked in the rooms at night... If someone started calling her Double Decker, then it would be complete. On the third day, Beatrice allowed herself a little bit of inward happiness. Alex and Thalia's prosthetics were almost complete. She had to imagine that it would help a lot with Alex's mobility, and perhaps even give Thalia a little more confidence (not that she was lacking in it by any means). Of course, this was coupled with the news that they would be sitting interviews and examinations. She had committed to memory the responses she had given on the questionnaire and Beatrice knew the areas of her life she was intending to keep hidden - namely, Justice. She didn't care if they knew the rest. The morning of the fourth day, Beatrice had had a good and decent breakfast. Her work in the showers was done and they were all in the conference room. She hadn't gone to get a haircut, not really caring if she had a million split ends or not. It seemed almost too much of a luxury to be able to worry about hair, though she had half a mind to ask Amelia if locks of love was still accepting donations and if Beatrice could make one on her behalf. The main reason she didn't was she was fairly certain the ginger would shatter like a tea cup thrown on the floor if she did. She already had to deal with one crying kid (Hunter), didn't need another one. "I'll bite," Beatrice said calmly, heading on over to Panama as cards were brought up. Her eyes darted over towards the tape that was playing. Thana's memory seemed to dominate this place. Whether that rattled Beatrice or not, her expression was neutral, as her gaze went back towards the guards and the offer of playing cards. He was a grandfatherly figure, carrying wisdom that could only come from being alive and living through so much. His mind went towards his own father - Charles Hudson - and he wondered what sort of grandfather he would have been to Jamie. Would he have finally risen to the occasion and attempted to right his wrongs? Or would Jack's father have been just as absent in his grandson's life as he had been in his son's? He didn't doubt that Tatiana wouldn't have wanted Jamie around Charles. Jack wouldn't have wanted that either. Maybe around his sisters... It wasn't their fault that they had gone to live with their father when their parents split up. His heart stung slightly as Tatiana had to part from them and go sleep with the women, but he returned her kiss and made her a quiet promise that they would both see her in the morning - and a plea for her to finally get some much needed sleep. In his room, one of his roommates had cried the first night. Jack's heart went out to the old amputee. He had cried the first night they had gotten Tatiana back. It wasn't something he had been able to help - it just happened. He had felt awful that Froggy decided to sleep on the chair, but he had known better than to argue with him. His mind was still partially in shock that his father figure was back, alive and well. Not only that, but they had found safety for the first time in what felt like an eternity. They had found a place where they could raise Jamie, give him the gift of something resembling a normal childhood. Over the past few days, his stomach hadn't always agreed with him. Thankfully, there was working plumbing in this place, meaning that whenever a bit of an issue struck and he needed to go - which didn't happen too often, he was grateful for that - he was able to pass Jamie off to Tatiana and then make a beeline for the bathrooms. Jamie was being a little champ the entire time, acting like an old pro at all of this. He had no issues with the food and all, slept fine at night. Jack was beginning to have a slight suspicion that every sleepless night they had spent with Jamie had been on purpose before and that the little bugger had just wanted attention. The accommodations they had made for him and Tatiana on the duties had been more than he had dared to hope for. As a small way of repaying everything they had done, Jack was a mad cleaning machine whenever he was sorting out business in the showers with Ash. He could practically just see his mother walking in and going "Really? I had to die for you to learn to clean up after yourself?!" and while it was a sad thought, it was a happy one too. She would have loved Tatiana and Jamie, he was certain of it. The shower cleaning also gave him a chance to more or less check up on Ash, something he was grateful for. He wanted to let Ash grieve and mourn at his own pace, but he also wanted his best friend to know that Jack was there for him if he ever wanted to talk to someone other than Tatiana about it all. The clean bill of health for Jamie from Doc? Yeah, that felt like hearing that the Cubs had won the World Series (sure, he was from Boston and he loved the Red Sox, but he had moved to Chicago and loved the Cubs as well). They hadn't exactly been able to have a real doctor take a look at Jamie other than Froggy since he was born, at least not as far as Jack was aware. When the haircuts were offered, Jack went and got one. His hair had gotten a bit shaggy and he felt like he was looking like some sort of rockstar, so it was nice to get things under control and out of his eyes. This morning, Jack was watching Jamie while Tatiana worked with Thalia in the little back area. Seeing the tape play, his heart clenched, expecting something from Ash but he wasn't about to press. If Ash handled this fine, he wasn't going to start poking at him and asking why he was doing okay. He didn't have training in psychology like his wife did, so Jack more or less just tried to make the best call with the options he had at hand. "Jamie, ya wanna ask Uncle Ash how he is today?" Jack whispered to his son, picking him up. He then spoke at a normal volume. "How are ya, man?" he asked Ash. If he needed this to stop, then Jack wouldn't hesitate to go and shut off the television set, but he wanted to see how Ash was reacting and all first.
