My dude bro, for your consideration:

Raiden Shimizu
Appearance: Raiden's hair is dark, long and very unkempt. He does not often care about style or what he is wearing. He dresses casually and practically preferring jeans and long sleeve shirts. Age: 29 Years Old Occupation: Street Hustler Starting Location: Hakata-ku, Fukuoka, Japan History: Raiden loved his parents very much. His father was Japanese military engineer and his mother was a veterinarian. His father's expertise was the invention and enhancements of military grade weapons. While he made a living advancing the technology of warfare, his wife lived only to heal those that were hurt. When his father was figuratively off the clock, he would eat dinner with his family and then retire into his basement to work on technological projects of his own design. A lifelong passion of his was the development of a battle enhancement suit, or Mech. When Raiden asked his father why he spends all of his off hours developing this suit, he decided it was time to tell his son what truly motivated him. The men of the Shimizu clan have long told the tales of the Kappa, amphibious creatures of curious intent who loved to serve something greater than themselves: their god. Raiden's ancestors have dealt with, battled and even worked alongside the Kappa allegedly, but they would never master communication with them. The universal understanding was that whether they had to hurt you, bargain with you or steal from you, they would get whatever it is they sought and then would take it back into the sea for purposes that have never been revealed. As his father told him these stories, Raiden couldn't help but laugh and be entertained. His father didn't laugh, though. His face was as serious as a heart attack as he stared at his son, detesting the rejection of what he felt was the truth. His father's obsession began to go into overdrive as the years went on. More and more he would lock himself in the basement and do his experiments, spending less and less time with his family. Finally, Raiden's mother had enough of the neglect. She demanded a divorce, but his father would not hear of it. Raiden woke up one morning and noticed breakfast was not ready, which was fairly unusual in their household. He went into his parents bedroom and only saw his father. Frantically, he woke his dad up and demanded to know where his mother was. All that was left of her was a note. As his father read it, tears slowly ran down his cheeks. Raiden continued to ask where she was and the only response he got was, "She's gone." His father's work nearly became a full time job, but ever since she left, the patriarch made sure to keep his son at his side teaching him what he could of the theory and the trade. What he was working on, how the technology worked, why he was doing it. The study and apprenticeship became a daily regimen. While Raiden followed what he could, most of the research and terminology went over his head. As his father's obsession continued to take over his life, the military let him go and severed ties with him. Too many claims of monstrous enemies lore that the government needed to prepare for. He was branded a lunatic, incompetent. The Shimizu family went broke fast. When their last coin was spent, and the last dinner consumed, Raiden's father tucked his son into bed and, with teary eyes, assured him that he would need to be strong and remember what he was taught. He would need to be the new guardian against the menace that the world refused to acknowledge. And then... he apologized. The next morning he was woken up by the sirens of the local police. They immediately rushed in the house and seized the boy. They didn't want him to approach the gruesome scene in his home. He would later learn that he father had called them and announced that he would be dead by the time the police arrived. He left very deliberate instruction to make sure that he son never had to see it and that they would provide for him, protect him in a way they he couldn't himself. They obliged. With his father deceased and his mother nowhere to be found, the authorities had no choice but to admit Raiden into a government run orphanage. Filled with degenerates, ruffians, and the unwanted, Raiden was quick to learn some of their tricks and skills that were typically frowned upon by standup citizens. All the while, he wanted to go home, to live up to his fathers expectation, to continue the man's work. On his 18th birthday, Raiden was released to be his own man. With a small amount of cash and the few possession that he had acquired over the years, he made his way into the world. The first thing he did was go back to his childhood home in hopes that he could find his dad's research and the projects he left behind. When he got there, he was sorely disappointed to see his home is a state of dilapidation. The journals, the research, the Mech technology... All of it was gone. Lost in the world, Raiden did the only thing he good; he survived. Trickery, thievery, whatever it took, Raiden did what he must to live to see the next day and what little luxuries he could afford were usually composed of debaucherous activity. Homeless, hopeless and without motivation, Raiden can often be seen strolling the streets looking for a new mark to victimize or sitting in an alley, imbibing drugs or filling his stomach with liquor. However, word got out that there were reported sightings of monstrous humanoid creatures emerging from the sea. Most people reported this as if it were a novelty, a joke. Raiden reacted differently. The hairs on his neck stood on end as he considered a crazy notion... Perhaps his father was right all along. Other: Raiden is a great card player, a smoker (of more than just tobacco), a drinker, a gambler, a gifted thief, moderately proficient as being stealthy, quite clever and has far more potential than meets the eye. His father's imparted education has made him a bit of a technology whiz despite the fact that he hasn't employed that knowledge in years. He's also very good at adapting to different situations and is stupidly brave to a fault.
