Her hair is short and choppy, her jeans thrifted and torn, and her flannel shirts about 3 sizes too big from the mens section. She keeps herself reasonably well-presented though, more than you would expect from an ex-con living in a slum with her pet goose. She doesn't care if people think she's vein, or conceited though. If covering the bags under her eyes with makeup and keeping her clothes clean means she can leave the house and go to work, then that's what she's determined to do. Abilities: Nia's unchipped ability essentially equates to producing a powerful concussive force blasts from her palms, probably equivelant to the force of a large truck going around 60m/h. This ability is difficult to control, often rearing it's head when she feels physically threatened, and using it leaves her physically exhausted and needing to consume a helluva lot of calories to make up for the energy expended. Chipped, her ability is significantly downscaled - about the equivalent force of a car going at 20m/h. It still leaves her just as drained, and is still difficult to control. Skills: Thanks to her time in prison, Nia can hold her own in a fistfight, although more often than not, her powers will kick in unintentionally the second she gets hit. Out of necessity, she learnt how to be a good judge of character - and knows who not to cross, where to go if she needs something, and what different people will want her to do to get it. She also learnt how to finger crochet inside, because why not right? Aside from that, Nia's a smart cookie, and knows more about insects than any reasonable person probably should. She's good with wildlife in general due to a fascination with natural history, and can easily distinguish plants from each other. She's a good artist, but hasn't drawn in a while due to pencils being contraband. Equipment: - Nia's pretty short on clothes, but has enough stuff to get by only doing laundry once a week - She has a reasonable collection of cosmetics, although nothing fancy - An incredibly battered set of wildlife field guides - one for insects, one for birds, a few for plants, and one for the coast. - Several miscellaneous natural history books, some with long overdue library return dates - An old key on her keyring with the edge sanded down to a point - Birdseed for Loch Biography: Nia was always a strange child, at least, by the standards of her wealthy parents. She preferred spending time alone, writing or drawing, as opposed to playing with the other kids. When she was forced into interaction, she was either quiet, or disquieting - preferring insects to bunny rabbits, black to pink, make believe games taking place in alien spaceships as opposed to those involving houses and babies. The first psychologist her parents took her to suggested she was just imaginative, the second, introverted. The third confirmed that yes, their daughter was a weirdo, but no, there wasn't anything actually wrong with her, but them he couldn't be so sure about. After that, her parents forced themselves to ease up a little. They may not understand their daughter, but that didn't mean they couldn't go with her to the bug museum, or help her dye her hair black. Unfortunately, the kids at school weren't so kind. Nia found herself on the receiving end of fairly vicious bullying from her peers. The school and her parents did what they could, but ultimately, it got to the point where Nia couldn't attend school anymore due to concerns for her safety and well being. Nia's parents instead found a homeschool group, and fortunately, Nia fit right in. The students there were more accepting of Nia's Nia-ness (something probably helped by the fact that she was slightly older now, the age where standing out and being slightly strange is kinda cool). Nia was starting to be more aware of social issues too. She thought it unfair that people were put into compounds just for being different, although the whole thing felt distant, like it didn't affect her, and even if it did, she wouldn't have been able to do anything about it. Everything changed, however, when Nia was 15, and one of the dads in the home school group asked her to come and see something in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Nia, still somewhat naive and temporarily free from her parents' watch, followed him. You can probably guess what happened next. Nia's abilities activated, and the resulting blast of concussive energy was enough to put a hole in the wall of the house. The man attacking her was seriously injured - paralysed from the waist down, and suffering a severe brain injury. Nia spent the next five years inside a prison facility for 'use of deviant abilities on a non-powered individual'. Her assailant received no prison time whatsoever. Nia was released straight into a compound, where she is still struggling to find her footing. Fortunately, she's not alone - she has her best pal Loch to keep her company. Unfortunately, Loch happens to be a goose. He's a good listener though...
