[/sub]
Recent History
Though they were nearly rendered extinct by the War of the Five Kings, House Baratheon survived thanks to the efforts of Davos Seaworth. While Stannis Baratheon fought valiantly both against the tyrannical House Bolton and the monstrous Others, he eventually sacrificed his own daughter, Shireen, as a last ditch effort to push back the Walkers. It was unsuccessful, and Stannis died a broken man. However, one of King Robert's bastards had joined the Brotherhood Without Banners, and through his heroism was legitimized as Gendry Baratheon at the conclusion of the War for the Dawn. However, Ser Gendry was averse and ill suited to rule Storm's End, and freely abdicated to Edric Storm upon his return from hiding in Essos and retired to a life of smithing at the Crossroads Inn along the Kingsroad. Edric's reign as Lord Paramount of the Stormlands was rather plain and uneventful. For much of the first half of the 300s AC, House Baratheon was content to stay in its homeland, replenish its numbers, and reassert itself over the region. That was, until Davos Baratheon took over as the head of house. Where his father had strengthened ties with their immediate vassals, Davos came to a conclusion the rest of Westeros would take decades to come to themselves; Queen Daenerys wasn't going to name an heir, and when she inevitably came to the same end as all humans do, the power vacuum left in her wake would be extraordinary, and to come out on top, the Baratheons would need the support of the other Great Houses. To this end, Lord Davos made a number of deals with the wider Realm; his elder son and heir sent to Highgarden to serve under the Lord Paramount of the Mander, his second son warded to the Starks of Winterfell, and his only daughter betrothed to the heir of House Arryn. He even sought a seat on the Small Council for himself and spent much of his time in the Capital, but was never appointed, to his great dismay. The biggest obstacle to Davos' plan came when his firstborn son was killed at the age of six and ten. This put the Baratheons' potential alliance with the Tyrells in jeopardy, and Davos moved swiftly to ensure such a match was still viable. While he still had a son to spare, however, said son was hundreds of miles away in the North, and he was decidedly against his father's wish for a prearranged marriage. Lyonel Baratheon's time as heir to Storm's End did not start particularly well. Young and in love, he went against convention and married Alys Manderly in a private ceremony in White Harbor without his father, or Lord Tyrell's, knowledge. To say Lords Davos and Loras were displeased when they arrived in Winterfell with Lyonel's so called betrothed only to find a newly married man with a pregnant wife would be an understatement.
Realm Relations
House Targaryen House Stark Though they are not bound together by blood, the Starks and Baratheons are perhaps the tightest knit of the Great Houses of Westeros. Lord Lyonel himself spent much of his youth warding at Winterfell, married a Northern woman, and redoubled the efforts of his house to aid in the reconstruction of the North when he ascended to his lordship. Although his responsibilities have made it all but impossible to visit the Starks in person himself, the ties Lyonel has in the North remain strong through his children, who see the Starks as nothing less than extended family; perhaps even more-so than their actual cousins in the Vale. House Tyrell Relations with the Lords Paramount of the Mander have been troubled, to say the least. House Florent, stripped of Brightwater Keep by the tyrannical Queen Cersei Lannister, did not have their lands returned to them after the return of Daenerys Targaryen to Westeros, and as such sought refuge under the roof of their newly legitimized cousin, Edric Storm. This caused no small amount of tension between the Baratheons and Tyrells over the years. Tensions that would nearly be remedied by Edric's son and heir, Davos. Davos would send his own firstborn son, Sebastion, to serve as a page in Highgarden and even arranged a betrothal between Sebastion and Alys Tyrell. However, Sebastion tragically died at a tourney in the early days of 352 AC. Davos rushed to ensure the match was still viable, with his second son, Lyonel, acting as Sebastion's replacement. When he and the Tyrells arrived at Winterfell only to find Lyonel had already married another woman, all relations with the Tyrells seemed to cease. Davos was shamed and made to return to Storm's End in humility. That Alys Tyrell has since inherited her father's lands and titles after the deaths of her own older brothers and now serves alongside Lyonel on the Small Council has not helped matters in the slightest. House Arryn Despite the marriage of Serina Baratheon to Martyn Arryn, the two houses seem to only interact when necessary. Althought by no means enemies, Serina was not particularly close with either of her brothers in their youth, due in no small part to their lord father separating them by hundreds of miles by the time they could talk in complete sentences. (Write more stuff)
Storyline Premise
The Baratheons find themselves at a crossroads of opportunity. Where they were once rendered all but extinct by the War of the Five Kings, with Daenerys' death looming on the horizon, they stand to regain their place upon the Iron Throne of Westeros. Dominion over the Seven Kingdoms is not so easily gained, however. While the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands has made no secret of his wish to call a Great Council, his former peers on the Small Council were less than receptive of the idea. For now, the Baratheons bide their time in Storm's End. Family Tree (subject to change)

Character Information

Identity
Lord Lyonel Baratheon
Age
43
Role
Lord of Storm's End Lord Paramount of the Stormlands Master of Laws on the Small Council
Characterization
Describe said character's reputation and values.
Attributes & Talents
Proven Leader Lyonel Baratheon personally led the forces of the Stormlands in the Reclamation of Estermont and the subsequent battles in the Stepstones Rebellion of 369 AC. His feats there earned him great prestige and fame throughout the Realm, but more notably, Lyonel inspired great loyalty in not only the Stormlords, but some of the finest knights of Westeros; from Gunthor Arryn of the Vale to Orys Seaworth and Jena Wylde, both of whom now serve on the Queensguard. While the man would never say so himself, it seems Lyonel Baratheon has a knack for reaching into the hearts of men, from the lowest foot soldier to the proudest lord. Bringer of Law Upon his appointment as Master of Laws, Lyonel immediately became very involved with the oversight of the City Watch of King's Landing. After a personal investigation, he dismissed many high ranking officers and appointed a number of trusted veterans as Gate Captains whom he now communes with regularly to ensure the Gold Cloaks remain a well oiled machine. It has been said that Lyonel runs the Watch as if it were an army rather than a police force, a statement that has more than a little truth to it. Nonetheless, the streets of King's Landing have been made safer under his diligent eye, even if it took years to finally come to fruition.
Immediate Family
Alys Manderly, Lady of Storm's End, 43 Lyanna Baratheon, their daughter and heir, 27, married to Jorgon Hightower Ser Axel Baratheon, the "Handsome Stag", 24 Ser Brus "Strongstag" Baratheon, 20 Melara Baratheon, commonly known as "Merry Mel", 16 Jon Baratheon, a child born after the Stepstones Rebellion, 9 Damon Baratheon, the firstborn child of Lyanna and Jorgon, 8 Elenei Baratheon, his sister, 4
Personal Relations
Serenei Targaryen Theon Stark Alys Tyrell The Master of Laws and Mistress of Coin, to say the least, are not on good terms. Lady Tyrell was once betrothed to Lyonel's late elder brother, and the two would meet when Lyonel once made the trip south to Highgarden from Winterfell, where he was serving as a ward to Lord Stark. Looking back on it, Lyonel knows he was a stupid boy who couldn't pick up on Alys' advances, but even so, his heart already belonged to another, and as such he couldn't return Alys' feelings. Little did he know his brother would get himself killed and leave Lyonel as heir to Storm's End. His lord father scrambled to ensure his alliance with the Tyrells would still come to pass, but Lyonel had different ideas, as the young and in love are wont to do. In a fit of teenage foolishness, Lyonel married his childhood sweetheart only days after his father's raven announcing his intention to ride to Winterfell. Ever since they shared a caravan down the Kingsroad, Alys Tyrell and Lyonel Baratheon hardly interacted with each other, and avoided each other's sights for years until they were both appointed to the Small Council. They have been less than cooperative. To Lyonel, Alys is little more than a girl who has held a grudge for nearly thirty years, who couldn't get over the first rejection she probably ever faced in life. Ever since he was a boy, Brus Baratheon has been loud, boastful, and, if his parents are to be believed, petulant. Some would say Brus represents the mindless fury akin to the weather of the land his family rules. Others still attest to Brus being an even fiercer friend than opponent in tourney melees. (Write more.)
Attributes & Talents
Describe said character's abilities and skills. Although they had not encountered each other in the opening ceremony of the tourney, Brus Baratheon would encounter the heir to Casterly Rock while out drinking with a number of his fellow competitors, squires, and so on. He would make a number of drunken japes at Ser Loreon's expense, but it wasn't until Brus made a pass at the peasant girl accompanying him that the Lion and the Stag came to blows. After receiving a dagger across his left eye that has left Brus with a scar to this day, the quarrel was broken up and both parties went their separate ways. The next day, Brus insisted upon competing in the melee despite his injury, and although he gave a spirited performance, he would not have the pleasure of finding Loreon Lannister on the field. Something he wishes to remedy any day now.
