I'd say general things like that are the inspiration for it. There was even an old movie I once watched which was like, this kid gets picked up from his home and joins a ship on board a flying ship, and their mission is to hunt a giant whale. Pretty sure it was animated, but yeah just in general things like that. 

Then the monsters are kinda similar to I guess like, Godzilla King of Monsters to some degree, even though I've not really gotten into that. Just seems similar in some ideas, but with more variety as giant monsters are by far not the only threat.

Honestly, I've never watched a Godzilla movie but King of Monsters I want to see.
