Rather than even having been Kings or great lords, when Aegon landed in Westeros the Tyrell's were simply the Stewards to the venerable and ancient House Gardener. While they were one of many houses related to the Gardeners their relation was neither the strongest nor the closest. However, after the Field of Fire, when Aegon arrived at High Garden it was the Tyrells who held the ancient seat of the Reach and so to them, he offered the place of Lord's Paramount of the Reach. Ever since the Tyrells have been known as one of the richest and most powerful Houses in all of Westeros having Lordship over the most fertile Kingdom of the Reach.
Head of House
Lady Alys Tyrell, Lady Paramount of the Mander, Defender of the Marches, High Marshal of the Reach and Warden of the South
Seat
Highgarden
Demesne
The Reach
Recent History
Time seems finally to have turned against the ever prosperous House Tyrell as of late. Having provided many men for the fight against the Others as well as suffering the loss of many of their members in the destruction of the Sept of Baelor Lord Willas Tyrell only managed to keep things as well and stable as he did thanks to his intellect and capability. His son, Loras, would fare far more poorly. An inept negotiator he sought to foster marriage ties to both the powerful houses of the Reach and with the other Lords paramount of Westeros, particularly House Baratheon. Due to what can only be described as the Stranger's luck all his plans went awry. The First man betrothed to his fair daughter Alys, one Sebastian Baratheon, died in an unfortunate jousting accident and his younger brother shunned his daughter for a northern girl. Trying to recoup his losses Loras quickly betrothed his beautiful daughter to a scion of House Hightower. Fate seemed to have other plans for young Alys as both her elder brothers died before fathering a son. The eldest, Garth Tyrell, died after drunkenly falling from his horse and the second son Mace Tyrell was struck dead by fever from a poorly treated wound. This left Alys as heir to Highgarden by Dornish law and forced Loras to quickly break her betrothal and instead marry his daughter matrilneally to the third son of House Fossoway of Newbarrel. This poor match was followed shortly by Lord Loras' death from a summer fever. Lady Alys Tyrell took her fathers place, however reluctantly. Unfortunately for her, the Reach was soon to face hardship from seemingly endless summer. A rot had been festering within the wheat fields of the Reach, one unknown by the Maesters of Old town. A plague infesting the fields and shortly into Alys' reign it reared its ugly head. What was at first thought to be a rare appearance of the 'Shaking Sickness' spread through many smallfolk, but it soon became clear it was a different plague entirely. The Maesters began to investigate and quickly traced it to a fungus that seemed to grow in wheat. The Maesters have taken to calling it 'Summer Rot'. Alys has done all she can to let information about this new disease and continue trade with the other Kingdoms. At first, it was easy, with the outbreaks being few an isolated, if growing at a worrying pace. It has only been recently that it has gotten so bad to begin to affect lesser and midling lords as more and more fields become foul. Rumors are now leaving the Reach, and many whisper that the great green giant of House Tyrell is finally faltering.
Realm Relations
House Baratheon After the debacle of Alys' betrothals and her own infatuation with Lyonel Baratheon in her youth, the Houses of Tyrell and Baratheon have strained to a point near breaking. Alys to this day takes her rejection from Lyonel as a personal attack, having so long wished to be his lady wife. She also blames him for her current position as Lord Paramount of the Reach, a position of power she never wished for and is quite unhappy with. That and the failures of Alys' father Loras have, in her eyes, forever soured the view of House Baratheon as 'lying, unreliable, unfaithful fools' who she has no wish to deal with. All the same, some whisper that Alys Tyrell still pines for Lyonel Baratheon and it is this reason she accepted the position on Daenery's Small Council as the Master of coin alongside the man. House Tully House Tyrell, unlike some other houses, never sent men to burn the Riverlands during the War of the Five Kings. In fact, after the War of the Dawn, it was the Reach which supplied the Riverlands and House Tully with the most aid while the realm healed. Much grain, livestock, and other material were traded and sold while the River Lords re-grew fields and re-built Holdfasts. Building good relations with House Tully was spearheaded by Lord Willas Tyrell at that time. Although they have been less involved recently, the two Kingdoms continue to exist amicably with one another. House Lannister It was the House of Lannister that caused the War of the Five Kings, and Cersei Lannister who destroyed the Great Sept of Baelor Killing Lord Mace Tyrell and his Daughter, the Kind and beautiful Queen Margaery Tyrell. Like many other Houses, the Tyrells are chilly at best with House Lannister, with Willas Tyrell at the time openly calling for the destruction of the House. Today, while still nowhere near friendly, the relations are more chilly than openly hostile.
Storyline Premise
House Tyrell stands on a knife edge. For the first time in many centuries, the tides turn against the ancient family. The Mander is in the grips of plague and a growing famine, minor Lords die in their beds or beg their liege lords for food and the other great Houses of the Reach look on with hungry eyes. It will be up to the sons and daughters of House Tyrell as to whether they will continue down this spiraling fall, or reclaim their place and become mighty once more.

Character Information

Identity
Lady Alys Tyrell
Age
43
Role
Lady Paramount of the Mander, Lady of Highgarden, Warden of the South
Characterization
Lady Alys Tyrell has been described as 'the beauty of her Time' and was once considered by many to be the most beautiful woman in Westeros. Even today she is comely, her breasts have grown heavier from weaning two children and she still has luxurious chestnut hair and deep green eyes are able to charm men. But her beauty has been overshadowed by younger women. Most consider her an amiable and polite woman, but it is known by many the woman holds a deep-seated grudge towards the House of Baratheon. As a young woman, she was twice promised to wed one of Lord Davos Baratheon's sons. The first and eldest, Sebastian Baratheon, had never really been to Alys' liking. She found him raucous and was suspicious of his activities as Sebastian was reported to quietly visit man a brothel in the dead of night. So she turned her young, wistful eyes to the reputation of his younger brother, Lyonel Baratheon. She heard he was as fierce and brave as the elder, but honorable and true as well. Slowly she found herself falling in love with the mere idea of Sebastian's younger brother who had been fostered in the North. Then, almost like fate, Sebastian was mortally wounded during a tourney in Old Town to the horror of Alys' father Loras and Lord Davos. Ever sly however, Davos proposed she instead be wed to Lyonel Baratheon and to Alys it was like something from a dream. She was taken north in a hurry but tragedy of a different kind struck here. Lyonel had already married unbidden to a daughter of Lord Manderly, breaking young Alys' heart. By the time she had been returned to the Mander Alys was a woman grown and still unwed. Hurriedly she was betrothed to the dashing son of Lord Hightower but once more this was taken from her. In what could only be described as the Stranger's luck both of Lord Loras Tyrell's eldest sons died not long after Alys' return, and his youngest son was a member of the Queen's Guard. Quickly hr broke the betrothal to House Hightower and wed his daughter matrilineally to Robert Fossoway of Newbarrel, a night five years her junior but happy to accept a marriage that gave their children the name of Tyrell. Alys, who had never wished to be more than a Lady of the Household, was now heir apparent to the Reach. A mere five years later she held her father's titles, and she has been bitter towards her once betrothed Lyonel Baratheon ever since. Alys is warm towards those who please her but stubborn and often inflexible in her thought. Once set to a course it is rough counsel indeed that can dissuade the woman. She is strong of will, but it seems often to way heavy on her, and as if she far prefers leaving hard stately work to others. She is given to throwing fine balls and feasts often but seems often disinterested in the work of rule. This is excepting when something grabs her attention. Once taken so she will, perhaps clumsily, focus it to the point of madness. Recently this seems to have taken the form of dogging the master of laws, her once betrothed Lyonel Baratheon, on the Queen's small council. She can be vindictive and scornful but is more often than not given to laugh and revel at stately parties and other gatherings. She wishes to be a friend to all and can win them easily with her charming speech and appearance, and she is often said to be a delight whenever wine, food, and conversation flow freely.
Attributes & Talents
Well aged Beauty Although aging now Alys Tyrell is still notably beautiful. She may have a few gray flecks of hair and more laugh lines than when she was young, but she has aged quite well and gracefully. The Sun has yet to set on her beauty. A Charmed tongue Alys Tyrell is a well-trained lady, able to charm many with her words and warm personality. She is personable and gregarious, to Lords great and small as well as smallfolk. It is hard to deny her natural magnetism and she is often a hard woman to hate for very long. Single-minded pursuer Although often uninterested in state work, if she does take a mind to some task she will hammer it like a bent nail until it is into the shape she desires. Most often this comes when she wishes to help a friend and counter one of the few people she considers as 'enemy'. Disinterest As she had very little preparation to take up the reigns of Lordship and even less interest she often will ignore issues, leaving them for advisors or others to deal with in her name while she indulges in flights of fancy that take to her liking. Tourneys, feasts and stately gatherings more often than not occupy Lady Alys' attention. Certainly far more than the running of the Mander.
Immediate Family
Robert Fossoway, 38 Randyl Tyrell, 23 Elinor Tyrell, 18
Personal Relations
Lyonel Bartheon Lord Lyonel Baratheon is not well like by Lady Alys yo say the least. Alys, perhaps foolishly, fell in love with all she heard of Lyonel Baratheon. Although betrothed to his older brother Alys pined for the valiant and honorable Lyonel Baratheon. It truly broke her heart the day she discovered he had married another woman, a Manderly who even shared her name! It felt to her as if the Gods had taken from her the life she wished to lead. Over the years as another marriage fell through and she was catapulted to the high seat of House Tyrell, a position she never wanted and suited ger ill, Alys grew bitter over Lyonel's 'betrayal'. Blaming Lyonel for her ill fate, Alys has turned much of her attention to countering the Good Lord Lyonel and his goals as he seems to mock her with the life she was meant to lead at his side. When offered the position of Mistress of Coin Alys took it, even if only to better spite Lyonel who was master of laws. Yet, even still, Alys secretly pines for Lord Lyonel. She ever wishes things would change, for she would happily give up the Mander if it meant she could be his Lady wife. It is this notion, however desperate and delusional, that drives her to scorn and bitterness over the Success of Lyonel as Lord Paramount and Master of Laws.
