Sure, she wasn't as fast as the other characters she was around, but she wasn't about to let herself be cooked alive by the doppelganger that attempted to destroy her just now. Thank God the boy was still around to shield the attack, otherwise that probably would've been the end of the fight for Akiko and Rose.

She darted towards the boy, still maintaining a steady pace as she moved. While running, she turned to look at the battlefield beside her, taking in everything that she could, including the slow-paced Mysterious Stranger who just then truly joined the fight, focusing Umi with maddening speeds. Though, it did leave (presumably) himself open for Akiko to study him. It was unclear whether they actually had a head or not, and there was also no visible skin, but they had a form that Akiko could study regardless.

Though, in her heart, she found herself thinking about the man in the hood deeper and deeper. Before she even knew what was happening, she used her [Critical Past] ability to see if there was anything she could identify about the man. Maybe with it she could reach some sort of peaceful agreement and victory with the stranger.
