This is essentially what I'm doing. 

I cleared the details of my character with Blackstripe in PM, but only put the basics that most people would be reasonably able to know. 

His backstory and more important details of his character will be revealed over time In Character, not in an exposition dump posted beforehand. 

Obviously if it becomes necessary I'll explain in more detail to relevant parties in a PM or something.
