Maybe he could just be thirsty? I'd think even the most dedicated of scouts would have to go back to civilization every once in a while. Though a diner in the middle of nowhere would hardly count, I suppose.

In any case, it doesn't have to an air-tight justification, and thing's will pick up quickly soon after. I just feel like there should be some semblance of an intro.
