THE STORY
In the year 2135, Earth, and by extension its colony's in the solar system, fall due to massive climate change, resource shortages, and nuclear war. All seems to be at an end for humanity. For all intents and purposes, it appears that the reign of humans has come to a close. However, despite the collapse of our home world and our fledgling interplanetary empire, we as a species were saved by an enigmatic, powerful, and mysterious alien race. Calling themselves the Shvii Hegemony, the humans saved by them learned quickly that we were not alone in the galaxy. Far from it in fact, we were just one of many, most of which lived and worked under the Hegemony. The Shvii helped the rescued humans get back on their feet, proving them with the resources and technologies required for them to become an equal player in the Hegemony, just another addition to the mass of intelligent species who made it up. However, as the newest and least experienced race to be uplifted, as well as for our violent history as a species, Humans were looked down upon. It didn't help that humans began to find their place in this new society as mercenary's and fighters, eventually becoming the go to when there was a morally ambiguous problem that had to be eliminated. Many other species began to view humans as simultaneously a threat to the galactic power structure and dirty bottom feeders, surviving by doing the dirty work for cash. For 800 years this was the state of things, with the aliens we had met attempting to halt the rise in human influence, and humans taking it wherever they could. For saving our species however, the Shvii were treated as almost gods, and humans were as a result beholden to them in many ways. But that is not to say that there was no push back. A large portion of humanity resented the amount of Shvii influence in human affairs, believing that they were using us to fight there wars for them, and manipulating our way of life to their advantage. Then one day, in the year 876 in the Post Terran Era, when a young student at a university discovered a book. It was paper, something that was more of a status symbol than the norm, and was clearly very old, which was just what he was looking for as he was studying old earth cultures. The book was Moby Dick, and inside was the handwritten message, "find the Pequod, find home," and a series of star coordinates. Believing that he was on the verge of a major find in the study of Old Earth, the young man tried to get a grant from his university to find what was on the other end of those coordinates, and when he couldn't get one, he organised an expedition of his own. But once they were there, they discovered that there was a lot more at play in those star coordinates and that cryptic message than there appeared to be. This RP will follow that expedition, with the RPers taking on the roles of various scientists, mercenary's, pilots and so on who are duped into helping on this adventure. Eventually they will discover a series of conspiracy's and cover ups perpetrated by the Shvii concerning humanity, how we came to be, the location of Old Earth, and the true nature of why so much space has gone unexplored.
HELLO AND WELCOME
Hello, and welcome to And All The Stars Fell to Thee. This is a personal project Ive been working on for a few months now, and ive been really looking forward to trying it out as an RP. The basic premise is as the THE STORY section details. Humans have survived the end of the earth because we were saved by a seemingly friendly alien race called the Shvii, who help us get back on our feet and begin operating as a part of the interstellar community called the Shvii Hegemony, which as the name suggests, is a society where the Shvii reign on top and are treated as almost godlike by the races below them. Humans in this new environment form a society that operates as a confederacy, with many separate Houses, Guilds, Corporations and Country's that make it up and have agreed to work together, but who all have a significant degree of autonomy from one another. In practice, it works similarly to the UN, but interstellar, and any faction of group of factions can choose to leave whenever they please. There are many different environs present in this society, and culture can shift greatly depending on where you are, from the greatly lawless and dangerous Outer Systems, to the bureaucratic and political Core Systems, and even beyond human space in other areas of the Hegemony. There is the Central Station, where member races gather to discuss affairs, trade and communicate, and the territory's, both claimed and unclaimed, of many other factions and species and governments. The characters will be initially regulated to being just scientists, navigators, and mercenary's hired for the initial expedition, but as the story progresses and more NPC characters and events are introduced, different character roles will be introduced for the players to have, depending on the NPC's and cultures we pass through. So, sit back, relax, grab some snacks, and strap yourselves in for a wild ride of conspiracy, crime, adventure, and most importantly, the study of Old Earth Cultures. She has been called very charming, and is pleasant to be around. She is, however, a rather morally ambiguous person, who makes her living as a smuggler and thief. As a result, despite her friendly personality, she has no qualms about hurting others for her own gain. Species/Race: Human Occupation/Position to be filled: Isra is the captain of the Valen-Sky, the ship hired to transport the expedition. Skills/Abilities: Skills: Isra is quick witted, intelligent, savvy and an excellent people person. Abilities: Isra is agile and quick, and a noted sweet talker. She is well versed in both business and law, and has a knack for finding things others cant. (She would make a good hufflepuff if it weren't for her morally dubious character.) As well as this, she is equally good at hiding things as she is at finding them, and is an excellent shot with a gun. Equipment: Isra typically carries a Zyxel-9 Revolver, which she keeps under her cloak, along with other items for sale. She also owns a Karigan & Scott 12 gauge, which she keeps in her cabin and has named "Hell Raiser." As noted, when she is not on the ship she also likes to wear a long cloak. History: Isra was born on a small colony world in the outer systems of the Human Confederacy, far enough away from the Confederacy's core systems to be relatively left alone by bureaucracy, but close enough to military centers to be safe from pirates and bandits. Isra was an accidental child, her parents having had her when they were both 16. As a result, she was raised simultaneously by her grandmother and her parents interchangeably, and over time became more and more aware of the growing rift between her parents and her grandmother, who wished Isra's parents would pay more attention to their Moroccan heritage and follow Moroccan customs. Her parents on the other hand viewed ancient cultures as irrelevant to their lives in a space faring society, and preferred to look to the stars, where they hoped to one day own a ship and make their living as merchants. This conflict came to a head when Isra was 7, and her parents both signed on to work on a freighter in exchange for a share in it. They asked Isra if she wanted to come with them, but her grandmother instead made an effort to convince Isra to stay with her. In the end, she chose to go with her parents and see the galaxy, and together they set off for the stars. On this ship, she learned all the ins and outs of being a spacer and a merchant. Soon, it became apparent to her as well that not everything the freighter was hauling was exactly legal, and she became adept at lying and ducking the law, especially as she got older and began to take on more responsibility in the business. When Isra was 14, the captain of the freighter that she was raised on retired, and having earned a share of the ship in their first voyage, as well as being the longest employees on the ship, he gave the ship to Isra's parents. At the same time, Isra decided that she wanted to continue in her parents footsteps as an adult, and began saving money to buy a ship of her own one day. She worked hard, both in legitimate business and in slightly more extra legal ones, and even made a foray into boxing a few times. (She was only mediocre. She was agile enough for the sport, but the vast majority of the time she would be knocked out in only a few good hits from her opponent.) By the time she was 18, she had saved enough money to buy a small, personal craft, and began running around the outer systems of the Terran Confederacy, where she continued on in much the same tradition, buying and selling anything that would turn a profit, legal or no. Over time, she began drifting closer and closet to Central Station, and eventually found herself on the station itself. Deciding that there was money to be made on the station, she decided to stay. She saved her money, and bought a dock for her ship, where she continued to stay for the next year, before her 24th birthday, when she went on to rent an apartment on the station. She stayed for another 2 years, until a series of bad business decisions, both legal and extra legal, forced her to leave the station to avoid the debt collectors. She spent much of the rest of the year smuggling guns for a group of pirates, which earned her enough money to start heading closer to the core planets, where one could make much more money transporting and selling for the Houses and corporations who wanted to keep certain activities on the down low. She drifted closer and closer, and started taking on passengers as well, until she made it to the New Prague system, where she met and agreed to transport an archaeological expedition for a man named Valentin Petrov. RP Sample: OP. Sorry, Im lazy. EXTRA'S (These are not required for you to fill out, but are things that I like to think about for my characters because I feel it helps me flesh them out.) Worst Thing Ever Done: Isra for a time imported and sold guns and drugs to any who would buy them on Central Station. She has sold weapons and narcotics to people as varied as full grown adults looking to kill other adults, to kids who wanted to be cool. It doesn't matter to Isra, as long as she gets payed. Best Thing Ever Done: Isra once, during the interim year from fleeing Central Station and taking the contract to transport Valentin's expedition, bought a woman and her child who had been taken as slaves by a group of pirates. She dropped them at the nearest colony, and left them to their own devices after that. What Do They Care About: Isra cares about her ship, freedom, seeing the galaxy, and above all else, she cares about herself. However, there is one other person she cares about, who she hasnt seen in a long time, and who is none of your concern. Greatest Fear: Isra is terrified of becoming trapped in something. She always tries to have a way out, and makes it a point to never connect herself to any existing organisation or faction outside of a business contract. If she is legally or morally bound to something, she wont take part. A Dark Secret They Have: When Isra was 16, she fell in love with a young man who was working on the same ship as her and her family. She keeps it secret because she feels it contrasts with the image of her being a sly and dangerous smuggler, and also because, while she hates to admit it even to herself, she still cares deeply about him and worries people would hurt him to get at her if they knew. In his view, the actions of his spacer comrades is base and trashy. However, he has a strong moral compass and believes that all humans are equal, even if some are not as classy and proper as others. Species/Race: Human Occupation/Position to be filled: Valentin is a student of Old Earth Cultures at the prestigious Whisthall University, and is the person responsible for organizing the expedition. He is as a result the resident Old Earth expert. Skills/Abilities: Skills: Valentin is well read, suave, thoughrough and understands the ettiquitte of high society. Abilities: Valentin is intelligent, a strong reader, a hard worker, and is able to see the big picture. Equipment: The copy of Moby Dick with the inscription and star coordinates, A pin marking him as a member of House Pavel, a nickel plated Worth & Knight .357 revolver, inscribed with an image of feathers, many coats, shirts, pants and shoes, all of which are expensive and beautiful. History: Valentin Pavel is the first son of Sir Konstantin Pavel III, Lord of the Reach, CEO of Pavel & Scott Mining Incorporated. Who his mother is is a mystery, but many believe she was a maid in the household, and was sent away after his birth to protect the family name. His father has always claimed that he was a full member of the house, and due to his power in New Start System, as well as his control of the Reach with all its minerals and precious metals, none have dared to defy that order. Nonetheless, Valentins father has always been distant to his eldest son, and has shown much more affection to Valentin's younger sisters, Svetlana and Zlata. He was educated in a series of private schools around the System, and to try and cover for his feelings of abandonment Valentin threw himself headlong into his studies. Vlentin was a good student, and did well in school. His teachers loved him, and he was always popular, though many said that it was because they wanted access to his family's clout and were simply trying to gain favors. Because of his uncertainty in his friends, Valentin became increasingly bitter and frustrated, and started to look more and more inward for his satisfaction. Though he tried to convince himself otherwise, he was becoming increasingly lonely, and started to lash out at the world. After a series of fights, he was nearly thrown out of his school, and in response his father took him out of school himself and had him tutored at the family's home. He continued to be successful academically there, and began to connect with his sisters, but his relationship with his father remained distant to practically nonexistent. When Valentin turned 18, he applied and was accepted into the prestigious Whisthall University, where people from all over the Hegemony gathered to learn and study together in peace. Valentin arrived, and in his second year there began studying Old Earth Cultures. It was a small part of the greater Archaeology Department, and was not exceptionally well respected by many outside of the human student body. Valentin's father was particularly upset about his choice, feeling that such an unremarkable part degree would not reflect well on the Pavel household, which had earned its respect through both business and war. He threatened to cut funding for Valentins schooling, and in response Valentin began using his newly accessible trust to continue work at Whisthall. While studying, Valentin was taken under the wing of a Professor Peng, who was also from a powerful family within the Confederacy. Peng became a mentor to Valentin, and encouraged him to pursue his passions. While in his second to last year and studying for his doctorate, Valentin journed into the librarys to read up on Old Earth Literatuyre for a paper he was writing, and discovered a paper copy of Moby Dick. Considering that most things were stored digitally, and possessing paper books was a status symbol rather than for any practical reasons, he was intrigued and took it down to flip through it. It was clearly very old, though well preserved, and on the inside cover the words "Find the Pequod, find your way home" was written, along with the star coordinates, 1121365.34435.88777568. Feeling that he was on the brink of discovery, Valentin brought it to Professor Peng, who told him that he had never seen either the quote or the star coordinates. Peng told him to look into it. Valentin, intrigued by the mystery, began reading all he could about Moby Dick, Hermin Melville, and looking for the quote anywhere he could. Eventually, having run through all of the possible sources he could think of, Valentin decided to try and get a grant to lead an expedition. He brought his discovery to the Board of Expeditionary's, and asked for a grant. They refused however, stating that his claims were based on little to no grounds, and that the University could not fund an expedition based on what they believed to be trivial Human culture that would have no effect on the Hegemony's society as a whole. And so, using the same tactics he had as when his father cut off funding, Valentin simply dipped into his trust again. After asking around, he found his way to a woman named Isra who owned a ship and agreed to take him on his expedition. He set out to find anyone he could, mercenary's, historians, archaeologists and anyone else willing to help. EXTRA'S (These are not required for you to fill out, but are things that I like to think about for my characters because I feel it helps me flesh them out.) Worst Thing Ever Done: Valentin grew up rather isolated from his peers, and throughout much of his young life began lashing out at others to try and compensate. As a result, he was a noted bully, and took pleasure in putting others down and beating them up to try and make himself feel better. Best Thing Ever Done: When Valentin got older, he began to come to terms with himself more. During his time at Whisthall University, he spent a good portion of his time championing Old Earth Cultures, as well as humans importance as a species. What Do They Care About: Valentin cares deeply about learning, especially about Old Earth. Greatest Fear: That he will be along forever, and die a bitter old man. A Dark Secret They Have: None really. Though a fighter and killer, the boy has - or hopes he has - a kind heart underneath it all, and deep pain inside that he finds hard to hide. Nevertheless, the burden of trying to project a mask of competence, lethality, and a 'cultured' style makes Ascot more awkward or even at a loss when confronted with things outside his skillset. But deep inside is a well of resentment at how those with power mistreat those who don't have it, including himself, and this resentment will be hard to keep in once realized. And finally, there is a loyalty to those who show him friendship. Species/Race: Human. Occupation/Position to be filled: Mercenary and Psion; can double as Cabin Boy or Busboy if needed. Skills/Abilities: Skills: - Guns. - Bladed Melee Weapons such as Swords and Knives. - Old Earth and Galactic History. - Literature (Or at least the cliffs notes versions) - Languages (unless translator implants exist) Abilities: - High Intellect. - Average Strength. - Above-Average Physical Endurance. - Psionic Implants placed in his brain in Early Childhood which allow him a measure of telekentic abilities, but fail to give him telepathy or similar powers. Equipment: - Meta-material fabrics and ceramic plates underneath that can withstand energy weapons and small arms fire. - Plasma Pistol. - Railgun Assault Rifle. - Meta-material blade. - Flash-Bang Grenades. History: Ascot's earliest memories were two loving parents smiling at him, followed by the sensation of hunger. More vivid were the men and women in white armor, some humans, some aliens, who came for him; he would later find out they were 'acquiring' test subjects. He remembered his parents shouting, as well as the sounds of hurried negotiation. Then he heard one of the men say: "Your boy will never go hungry again," causing his parents to yield him up to the goons. The young Ascot had to admit it; it was the best way to convince his parents and him to submit quietly. He was six then. It turned out that the boy had been sold to the Myriad Star Corporation, a joint Shivii-Human venture dedicated to reasearch on Psionics, specifically the creation of Human Psions. What happened next was a blur; injections, pain, and waking up to find that he can now move objects with his mind. Next was education with other children, education in a variety of subjects; math, science, history and literature. The intent was to create psionic mercenary bodyguards who can keep up with their 'masters' in intellectual gifts, so as not to insult their intelligence. For that was what the test subjects essentially were: Slaves who were trained to be good companions as well as fighters. And fighting was their primary purpose, as Ascot found out at the age of thirteen, when he was judged to have sufficently developed his skills enough to kill other people. When sent for his first combat situation, the boy remembered going up against trained soldiers, and having to massacre both humans and aliens. It was sick, disgusting, and yet, thrilling at the same time. He would be sent again and again and again, even as his training continued. All the while, he was told that he would eventually free himself from the Corporation's 'indenture' if he managed to succeed in enough missions. He knew it was a lie; but there was no other hope. Then this latest assignment, an assignment to find Earth, the Homeworld of Humanity, came. And with it, Ascot saw a chance to escape. Please try and make your characters fleshed out. I can help with this if you ask, but otherwise its on you do the work for yourself. 6. No one liners. If you are posting, try and make it 5 sentences at least, and preferably more. If its dialogue I will look the other way, but otherwise try and make your posts a bit meatier. 7. Unless your character is picked up on a joint colony world or a space station, they should be human. After all, at its core this RP is about humans leaning the true fate of humanity. 8. Speaking of other races, if you have an idea for characters from another race, you must fill out the Alien Race App before you can post anything about said character. 9.
