I think with most RPs what happens is that no matter how interesting the RP is, eventually, people just stop posting. They get busy with other things, they lose interest, or whatever the reason is, they just move on. And then anyone who does stick around and try to keep the RP going is left wondering "Where did everybody go?", and their own drive starts to die out because the RP feels abandoned. 

It's not so much a fear, just an understanding that it is a thing that, unfortunately, is very common. In fact I would say RPs going on for a long time is the adnormal thing.
