School Previously attended New York University Occupation Assistant Manager at Pounce n' Play, Waitress/Bartender at Diamond in the Rough Personality Back in New York, Nahla had been a social butterfly, some might even say the "life of the party", but since moving to Emerald City she's become more of a laid back, chill kind of person. Kind of a tough nut to crack, but always kind and willing to listen (part of what makes her a good bartender). She's hardworking and smart, but just like everyone, she has skeletons in her closet. The whole tough, don’t need anyone façade is just a thin mask to hide the void she feels since moving back to Emerald City. She’s clings to the connections she has with people now, even as she fears losing them. Her warmer, more approachable side to her personality usually shines whenever she’s working at Pounce n’ Play or around people she really cares about. She’s much more cool and reserved when working at the bar, and can get very passive aggressive around people she doesn’t like. Short Bio Born and raised in Brooklyn by Charles and Miranda Howard, Nahla lived a fairly charmed life as a child. Her mother was born and raised in Emerald City, and moved to New York when she was young to pursue her dream of becoming an artist. It was there that she met her father, and before they knew it they were married with Nahla on the way. Her father was slightly older than her mother, a young banker, trying to work his way up the ranks, and doing well at it. This meant that Miranda was able to quit her job to be a stay at home mother to Nahla and work on her art. Things were seemingly perfect. She lived in the greatest city in the world, with two parents who loved each other, and her, more than anything. Plus she got to visit her grandparents in Emerald City every summer. As a child, Nahla remembers those summers being some of her happiest memories, but as she got older the trips became less and less frequent as she became more busy with school, and gymnastics, and friends, and her father became more busy with work, until eventually they just stopped going at all. Her parents had always been diligent about her getting into the best dance classes, being on the best gymnastics team, and having the best tutors and piano instructors money can buy. She was a good student, typically ranking in the top 25 of her class, and filled much of her free time with community service-- all at her fathers behest. He was intent on her getting into NYU and being able to stay in the city, close to the family. It never occurred to her to protest, as this was where all of her friends were, it was where her entire life was. Plus her father offered to pay for her entire tuition as long as she attended. So she did, and things were perfect... until they weren't. She was 18 when her life got flipped on it's head-- she was about to start her second semester of college when her father was arrested for stealing money from the bank he worked at, and as such all of his assets were seized. Her mother hadn't worked a day in almost 19 years and had no money to speak of, which meant that they had to uproot their life in New York and move back to Emerald City to live with her grandparents. Miranda and Nahla are the only two that know what really happened with her father, as the story wasn't big enough to make any important news headlines, so as far as anyone in Emerald City knows, they moved back because her father died and her mother wanted to be closer to family. Most people bought it, especially after her mother's breakdown a few months after they moved back. Presumably the shock of what had really happened finally set in, but her mother basically became a shell of her former self, and never really got better. Now, Nahla lives on her own in the city, her mother still living in the country with her grandparents. She works two jobs to help support her mother, who still doesn't work at all, and tends to keep a low profile in general, her friend pool small, but tightly knit.
