In the 22 years it has been in Salem the Cauldron became a staple of the community. The prices are cheap, smoking is allowed inside and the owner is known for his interesting stories and love of classic rock.
However the cauldron is also a meeting point for Members of the Voodoo Coven and occasional other supernatural creatures who need their services or help. In the back office Martin practices his Voodoo.[/hider][/indent]

His clothes are almost always a bit stained and he prefers dark coats and dress pants, combined with colorful red or purple shirts. He sports golden earrings and a gold chain with a cross and obscene amounts of golden rings and other jewelry. On his back is a tattoo of a tombstone, to be exact the [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veve]Veve[/url] of his guardian Loa Baron Samedi. The rest of his body is also covered in tattoos, many more veve of minor Loa and symbols of death and magic.

[indent]The real reason Martin left Louisiana is not what he is telling everyone. He had a rivalry with his cousin for the sizable Inheritance of their Grandfather. To get rid of him Martin (Back then called Charlie) called upon a dark and forbidden Loa. The curse he put on his cousin had horrifying effects, rotting his skin and slowly killing him. When it was clear Martin was the one who cursed him he ran away to Salem. [/indent]

[indent]Martin is a powerful Bokor or Voodoo Priest. His power, like that of all Voodoo practitioners, comes from the Loa and their realm of Bondye. He is able to commune with the spirits of the deceased, curse his foes, craft protective talismans and sense magic.
⚰️ [b]Crafting Fetishes:[/b] To create a Artifact or Gris-gris Martin needs the right ingredients and time, also it is not cheap. His most popular creations are Gris-gris to protect against evil magic and trinkets that give vampires some defense against sunlight.
⚰️ [b]Curses:[/b] As a Bokor Martin is an expert in curses. To curse someone he needs personal objects and belongings of that person and the right materials. His curses range from nightmares to illness and are very expensive.
⚰️ [b]Cheval:[/b] The Loa are known to possess willing hosts. Martin is quite adept at calling upon these spirits to enter his body or that of a another willing person. As the gods and spirits of Voodoo the Loa are incredibly powerful and wise but also easy to anger and not always ready to help.
⚰️ [b]Herbal Remedies:[/b] Using ancient combinations of herbs and other ingredients a powerful Voodoo priest can create powerful potions and powders. Martin knows how to make love potions, sleep powders, potions to let ones soul see the other side or achieve other effects.
⚰️ [b]Zombies:[/b] The word Zombie comes from the Kongo words [i]nzambi[/i] and [i]zumbi[/i]. To create a Zombie a Bokor buries a living human and gives him a special concoction. The Zombie then frees himself form his own grave and is reborn as a undead, superhuman servant of the Bokor. Martin knows that this ritual is drawing upon very dark forces and is shunned upon.

[indent]A Bokors magic is different from other witches since it almost always takes rituals and fetishes to perform. Martin cant really perform magic on the fly and is often quite defenseless in a fight.[/indent]

[indent]Martin is incredibly charismatic, easy to be around and always the life of the party. On the other hand however he is spiteful and holds grudges for decades. On someone he first meets he almost always makes a good impression and people are often impressed and surprised by his charm and intellect, only people who have known him a long time however realize that there is something far darker behind his smile. Martin is good to his friends and patrons at his bar, to his enemies he is a force of pure hatred and spite.[/indent]

[indent]He was born Charles Baptiste le Croix in New Orleans, Louisiana. Although racism was still very prevalent in the south by the time of his birth he had a more privileged childhood than many other African Americans in New Orleans. His grandfather managed to get rich in the textile business and he and his family lived in a nice house in a much poorer black neighbourhood. His mother was a descended of the Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau and a quite skilled witch herself. She realized at quite an early age that her son had the same gift. He would see things that others could not and hear the voices of dead relatives. His mother immideatly began training him, always reminding him to be humble bevor the Loa and to give them their due respect. 
The young man had however no interest at first in becoming a Voodoo Priest, he wanted to live life to the fullest, partying, smoking and drinking all day and night. It wasn't until his parents died suddenly that he realized there was more to life, when he went to the cemetery to commune with their spirits he had a life changing experience. The Loa Baron Samedi, lord of the dead and protector of the graves, took over his body and possessed him. From this day onward he knew what he had to do, the young man put all his time and effort into Voodoo, learning from the best and most powerful Bokors and Witches. 
When he finished his studies he wanted to join the magic underworld of New Orleans however he made a big mistake and left for Salem. There he made contact with the local Voodoo Coven and quickly rose through the ranks through his charisma and knowledge of Voodoo. When the old supreme of the Voodoo Coven passed on to the other side he named Martin as his successor, mostly because of Martins skill and willingness to fight the other covens.
