[color=dodgerblue]History:[/color] Melati is the sole heir of the Lin family ranch, which controls a large portion of Sangtan Island's food supply.  She grew up rich and privileged, raised more by servants than her own parents, who were ambivalent toward her as long as she didn't jeopardize the family reputation.

Though she was taught to read and write and encouraged to pursue scholarly activities, Mel spent most of her time outdoors learning how to work the ranch.  She was always fond of animals, but found that her true passion was reptiles.  Namely, lizards.  In her early teens, she began taming and studying native lizards, but it was also around this time that she was sent away for higher education.

Melati went to college on the mainland to pursue a degree in fine arts, and it was there that she learned just how much she didn't know about social customs and etiquette.  After earning her degree, she promptly returned to Sangtan and did nothing with it, content to stay in her bubble and play with lizards.  But waiting for her was a different sort of friend: the servant, Jessie.

Mel and Jess were instant friends.  In a month, they acted as though they'd known each other for a year.  In a year, they were inseparable.  Jessie, knowingly or not, gave Mel the support she needed when she was at her lowest.  Now, Mel does everything she can to ensure that Jessie knows she is appreciated, even though it isn't needed.

[color=dodgerblue]Brief Personality:[/color] Energetic and outgoing, Mel is always excited to meet new people, though is less comfortable around others of high class.  Due to her sheltered childhood, Mel can come across as naïve or even obtuse when it comes to social matters, but tries not to bother herself with what others think.  She is most herself around Jessie.

Melati can take on one attribute of an animal she has seen or interacted with before.  It only takes a few seconds to cast and lasts as long as she maintains focus.

Mel can transform into an animal that she has seen or interacted with before.  It cannot be larger than a pidgeon and takes about half a minute to cast, depending on how well she can recall the animal.  The spell lasts up to an hour or until it is dispelled.

Mel can call nearby animals to her and verbally command them to fight for her.  Animals that are influenced by her gain resistance to incoming attacks.  Cast time depends on the size, number, and proximity of animals affected, and can take up to a minute.  Only simple orders can be given, and more intelligent animals may ignore them.  Currently, she can control about half a dozen small animals of pidgeon size.
