At first, Merlou only knew Rachel as a friend of a friend. She was always kind of there, but she never really worked herself up to talk to her because she would've felt bad since Rachel always seemed so busy and Merlou didn't want to interrupt her. So it went on like this for some time until the school started up with their plays, in which that was the moment she actually met Rachel. Of course, Merlou definitely had the potential to play a part, but she was too worried about messing something up hat she worked backstage, helping build and paint the sets. It wasn't until she met the acting crew that she was finally able to talk to her, and after that, she started seeing more of Rachel and soon became friends with her.

Caring and friendly towards everyone, Merlou is a prime example of someone you'd call a "gentle giant." She's extroverted and loves to be around people, very much disliking being alone, so she surrounds herself with those she can talk to. Supportive and believes everyone deserves a second chance, Merlou is more than willing to be a shoulder to cry on; she is the type of person you can call at three in the morning and she'll be over in five minutes despite what's going on. She's reliable and will provide moral and emotional support, along with a good cry and a hug.

Highly sensitive and very emotionally open herself, she takes critism to heart and will beat herself up over it for days. She doesn't like worrying other people with her problems, so she keeps the deeper feelings bottled up, but she doesn't mind listening to other's problems and giving her all to support then. She's basically just a human teddy bear.

Born to Zenaida and David Zenon, Merlou grew up in a wealthy household with her [i]eight[/i] other siblings. Being the eldest daughter, she had two older brothers, Zarion and Aldrich, she felt as if it were her job to take care of her other siblings. Their parents were often away from home for business, since they both owned a popular business together. They did have a babysitter, but ultimately, it was Merlou who did most of the taking care of. 

Merlou was pretty close with her family until around middle school, when she had realized she was gay. She did end up coming out to her family, and it's not like they were unsupportive, they just kind of treated it like a joke. Like it was a phase that she was going to grow out of, so to make them happy, she wen't along with it and didn't bring it up again, though it made her very uncomfortable whenever they would mention it. Her parents were the only people she ever shyed away from telling, only because she didn't wish to make them disappointed in any way. She just wanted to make everyone happy, though she still feels really bad about it. She wants to make everyone happy but she hates lying, so through most of highschool, she felt very conflicted, one of the major things she fought with herself about.

After high school, Merlou decided to become a nurse, wanting to help as many people as she could, since that's always been an aspiration of hers. Not a lot of dramatic things have happened in her life except her disconnection with her family, only because she felt extremely uncomfortable being around them, especially since they've always pressured her to find herself a husband. She's just never had the guts to seriously tell them to stop, so instead, she distanced herself away from them.

When she got the message from Rachel inviting her to the island, Merlou immediately accepted. She's always admired Rachel, plus going to a fancy island with a whole bunch of people sounded like a paradise. Merlou never really had a whole bunch of money herself, refusing to take any from her parents, so she basically lived on her own, so it wasn't often she got to treat herself, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Though she did hesitate a little [Sub][s]a lot[/s][/sub], because she didn't want to take up space for others that may have wanted to come, she eventually said yes.
