His name is Ravi, which after some research I’ve found to mean “Sun God”. Pretty cool huh? Rumor has it that he was adopted from a place called Himachal Pradesh, India. None of the other students seem to want to talk to him… They keep whispering about his supposed “weird” accent and dark skin… I mean, I know this is a small town filled with hicks but, it saddens me to see that racism is still present in today’s society. To be honest, I think there is more to him that meets the eye… Personally, I could always use some more friends in my life. What do you think Diary? Should I sit with him at lunch? At the time he and his parents barely had a rupee to their name. In an effort to give their son a better life, his mother thought it would be best for Ravi to be adopted into an American family. Once the paperwork had been signed and everything was made nice and legal, Ravi headed out to Gatling Texas to meet his new family, the Callums. The couple who had taken him in had been in their 40's. Don Callum spent his days as a court judge specializing mainly in civil dispute cases. His wife Martha was a part time librarian who also took care of the house. After almost two decades of trying, they had given up on the idea of having their own children. Instead, they thought it would be best to adopt a child from an impoverished nation.

-High School-
In the middle of the school year Ravi was enrolled in the Gatlin West's School System. His first year of middle school would consist of all the necessary courses one would take, but all his electives were remedial in an effort for him to adjust in his new setting. At first the transition was pretty hard on him. Personality-wise, Ravi had always been a quiet child. He believed words held power and that one should be wise when using them. That, and the fact that he was still trying to perfect his English caused him to be an easy target among bullies. It seemed to be an easy way for the big, dumb, brutes to build their self esteem. With the sorrow of saying goodbye to his biological family mixed with his inability to fit in, Ravi began to lose all hope toward his new future in America. As a way to have an outlet for the constant onslaught of negativity, Ravi would frequently write poems and short stories as a way to channel his anger. Out of all the subjects he had studied, he was most fascinated with English. Probably because he saw mastering it as a way to master communication. It wasn't until Roxanne took the courage to sit with him at lunch that he started to think differently. Students went out of their way to ostracize him, yet she didn’t seem to care.

-High School and Beyond-
That day at lunch seemed to have change his life forever. As more time went on with Roxy by his side, more people seemed to back off and even start to be nice to him. Once Freshman year came around, puberty hit, and Ravi seemed to be getting even more attention. Especially from the female population of the class. The Gods seemed to favor him by blessing him with rugged good looks. A lot of students began to find his quiet nature mysterious and intriguing, but of course, that was after he started to gain popularity. Out of all the romantic offers he had received over the years there was only one woman who had truly captured his heart. An angel. Someone who had loved him even at his worst. She saved his life in a way… In Sophomore year he let his feelings be known by writing her a poem about the effect she had on him. He recited it to her one night when they broke into the football field to stargaze. After heartfelt tears and a long embrace their relationship had begun. The two were inseparable over the years not only as best friends, but with what seemed to be the perfect couple. It wasn’t until the night of their graduation party that he had caught her sleeping in another mans bed. Not just any male either, a mutual friend of theirs. Heartbroken, he left her without another word. Ending their relationship until the day she died.

-Current-
Unable to cope with his loss among familiar surroundings, Ravi moved to Seattle Washington to sign with a publisher and begin his career. His days were filled with book signings, tours, writing, story boards… but always he would think of Roxanne. Years had passed, and even though she was always on his mind, his pride stood in the way of them ever reuniting. It wasn’t until he received the letter of her passing that his world truly shattered. Numb and unsure of what to do, he traveled back to the town he had abandoned almost 10 years ago to attend her funeral.

Amazing! Accepted!
