Sure, he's not a party animal like his teammates but Rachel is one of the few who knows a secret about Derek and has kept it silent for him. His love of poetry. He's even sent her multiple of his poems for an outside perspective and sees her as basically his editor.
Appearance Details

Hair: Ginger | Absolute Mess | Constant Bedhead(The only times he messes with it is when getting it cut, when he's taking a shower, and trying to shove it into his helmet.) As a young kid, he was a really kind child, but as a result of bullying, he quickly had become jaded. Up until his Senior year of high school, he himself had become the bully, tormenting anyone who was "privileged". Due to various circumstances, he came to the point of introspection. Nowadays, he simply avoids most people. He's not sure if it's because he still hates himself or because he can't really stand the attitudes of some of the people at this college. But if someone can get to know him and make a friend of him then he'll stand by them and support them the best way that he can. To him, loyalty is the absolute most important quality in a person. He may not be the most outspoken guy in the room but if you're his friend you will know he has your back.
Upbringing Synopsis
To start telling the biography of Derek one would need to start first with his parents. Sarah and Mike, the mother and father of Derek, were the IT couple in Derek's hometown during their high school years. The captain of the football team and the head cheerleader. Prom King and Queen and the most popular kids in town. Yet, as a lot of kids their age, they were young, stupid, and careless. A few weeks after prom Sarah realized she was pregnant. Her parents were furious but did nothing to punish the girl. Mike also promised he would stick by her side forever and that a baby wouldn't change anything, and she believed him. How unfortunately naive. Only a few days before the due date and Mike disappeared without a trace. Even the boys family and closest friends had no idea where he went other than a note that basically amounted to saying screw everyone and that he was skipping town forever. To add to Sarah's grief, her mother's death occurred the same day that Derek was born. How could someone be happy in these horrible circumstances? However, the moment she looked at the tiny bundle she only felt happiness. Sarah was overjoyed to have the baby in her arms. The joy didn't last long, and she knew it wouldn't. Her father was an extremely austere man. He told her she would work to get a place for her and her baby despite having the money and living space to support them. He would give them money anytime they ultimately needed it, but other than that all the man did was watch Derek while Sarah was working or taking classes. Skip a few years to while Derek is in elementary school. He is a kind quiet boy. Helps his classmates and has a few friends. Then a specific kid moves into town. Starts bullying Derek calling him all sorts of things and harassing him. Derek took it and never responded. Until one day the boy attacked one of Derek's friends. Derek couldn't stand by and watch. He stood up to the bully and in the process got beat up for it. Then his 'friend' didn't even help him. Derek was broken by what happened. He switched schools because his mother didn't want him to get hurt again. When he started at the new school, he was different. No longer the sweet boy. Now, he despised anyone who looked down on others or had it in any sorts of the way easy. No one other than Sarah remembered the kind boy that Derek used to be. Starting high school was the same deal. By this time Derek had his lackeys and quickly became one of the top dogs of his grade. He was just a jerk and bully to anyone who didn't stand behind him. Being one of the best football players in the state didn't help much either. By his junior year, some considered him the most popular guy on campus, and he hated it. Over the summer between his junior and senior year, something unexpected happened. Mike Harris had returned to town with two children tagging along. The story was he ran away with some college girl and was only now coming back because his wife died and he wanted to introduce his children to their family. Derek wanted nothing to do with the three, and neither did Sarah really, but Risteard suggested she try to reconnect since he was reasonably well off and when Mike asked her out she agreed. One thing led to another and Mike had Sarah move in with him. They tried to get Derek to join them, but he refused to move instead opting to stay at the apartment he had called home for years. His mother was at least able to get Derek to let Mike pay for the rent, but the teenager still hated the man. It didn't take Derek long to realize that Mike was not as kind as he was pretending to be. Noticing the faint signs of his mother's diminishing physical strength and freedom. During his Senior year, all the stress caused Derek to somewhat reflect on who he was. He never wanted to be anything like Mike and felt that the path he was on was turning him into that man. At first, Derek started by trying to apologize to some of those terrorized by him in the school eventually even doing various favors for them. No one faulted him for trying, but he hadn't 100% changed and was still aggressive and hot-headed letting his mean streak bleed through occasionally. Going into college, he was at least able to make up for a little bit of the trouble he caused to others. He also formed at least somewhat of a relationship with his two half-siblings only because of his mother. However, he still despises the man known as his father, and it's likely that fact will never change. He chose to go to Woodford as it was far away from everything and it was the university which offered him the best scholarship. Derek has mostly focused on football and his business degree. He was determined to be able to support his mother after college so that he can get her away from Mike. If one were to fail he hoped he was good enough at the other for it to succeed.
Misc.
Rupert Grint | Olive/808000 His main hobby, as he doesn't really consider football as just a hobby, is poetry. He has been writing poems ever since middle school and has actually become quite good at it. Very few people know about it though. Outside of his actual family, he considers everyone on the football team as his brothers. So, even if he doesn't like their personality he will still stand by them even off the field. I have not had anything to eat yet.
