When he was younger, he was always a bit larger than the other humans he trained with. Currently, he stands at 1.9 meters, and weighs 83 kg. With his partially shaved head and noticeable scar on his right cheek, one would be forgiven for immediately assuming the hulking Jedi was a bouncer or street thug. The Jedi Knight has two outfits he keeps on hand: his traditional Jedi robes for wear around the temple, and his nondescript jumpsuit worn when trying to blend in to the crowd. He almost always is seen wearing combat boots, and his weapon is often found proudly holstered on his left belt.
[sub]Simplified report on known Force techniques and estimated levels.[/sub]
Jex's suite of force training has been suited towards his intended specialization. He has an understanding of the Jedi principles regarding the History of the Republic and the Jedi Code, as well as basic training in piloting and survival. Jex's most extensive training has been in the fields of negotiation and forensics. While he didn't start off as a fond student of medicine and science, Master Selbuk instilled an understanding of it's importance in bringing order and balance to an unstable galaxy. Jex has a near expert understanding of Forensics, and is incredibly proficient in the arts of interrogation, negotiation, and occasional deception. Jex's lightsaber training is geared mostly towards defense. He has a decent understanding of Form I and Form II, but is most proud of a development of his own personal defensive flair. He is well trained in Soresu and Shien forms, mostly for their benefit in both blaster and bladed defense. His offensive strategy is best described as "the best offense is a remarkable defense."
[sub]Quick report on political influence, associates and rivals.[/sub]
Jex doesn't have much political influence, both inside and outside of the Jedi Order. He was made a Jedi Knight mere days after the Sacking of Coruscant, and has spent the time since training to be an Investigator. He has no notable associates, though has made enemies with a few low-level crime lords on Coruscant.
[sub]Psychological evaluation of Jedi Order member.[/sub]
Jex Saranth seems to be a remarkably stable individual, despite prior fears of life events drawing him down a darker path. He takes after his former Master Gareth Selbuk, seeming to be rather stern and grizzled for a man of his age. He often bears a sour expression, and carries himself with a domineering tone. At times, it seems he gets along better with criminals and Republic security officers than his fellow Jedi Knights. In the Temple, he is much more quiet and reserved. Reports of Jex in the field and even on assignment as a Padawan suggest he enjoys regaling the populace with tales of his escapades.
[sub]List and description of known and suspected flaws. Acquired shortly after last achievement of note.[/sub]
Jex Saranth was born to an unremarkable life. His family operated a small speeder and droid repair shop. They had little way to support their child, but did the best they could for three years. That was until a Jedi Recruiter had shown up on their door, and offered Jex the life they always wanted: he would receive an education and would help make the galaxy a better place. And so, while Jex was too young to understand what was happening, he was shipped off to the Temple on Coruscant for training. Jex didn't adapt well to his new environment. He wasn't the best student, and had issues finding inner peace. He took better to more practical skills, from navigation to dueling. It took him until a year before the Initiate Trials for him to begin making peace with his life at around the age of ten. He took his studies more seriously, and truly began to find a love and appreciation for his studies and the Jedi Code. Jex Saranth's trials were an interesting sight when he began them at age twelve. During the Trial of Wisdom, he seemed to demonstrate a passable understanding of the Jedi Code and it's true meaning. The Trial of Skill was a bit shaky, as Jex had some difficulty connecting to the force under such pressure. The most difficult trial, however, was the Trial of Insight. Jedi Investigator Gareth Selbuk oversaw Jex's trial personally, as something about the Intiate spoke out to him. Gareth had given Jex what seemed like a simple case: a local criminal was accused of murdering his girlfriend. Jex poured over the case files, and it seemed rather open and shut. Yet, something seemed... wrong. So Jex went over it all again and again for hours, with Selbuk watching intently. After seven hours, the Initiate finally delivered his verdict: the hitman was guilty. The smoking blaster? The blast wounds were inconsistent for the hitman's height, and it was clear from some bruising and burn marks that the body had been moved. With that verdict, Jex was made a Padawan. Better yet, Gareth Selbuk had accepted the boy as his Padawan. Jex served as Gareth's Padawan for his entire career. Gareth was almost always stationed for missions within the Inner Rim, from Coruscant to Manaan. As a result of Gareth's training, the two often found themselves working to solve strange cases and aiding local law enforcements to deal with organized crime rings that had risen up as a result of the war. Beyond practical training in applying his understanding of the force and a remarkable education in the fields of interrogation and forensics, the most important lesson Jex learned under Gareth: patience. Patience was the key to balance. A case didn't just solve itself overnight, nor would the galaxy suddenly temper in a matter of days. The next most crucial lesson: the purpose of peace is to protect, not attack. Everything about Jex's lifestyle, from his daily interactions to his saber style, grew to reflect these lessons. When Jex turned twenty, he began his Knight trials. The first test he engaged in was the Test of Skill, in which Gareth had chosen to test out Jex's ability to concentrate. Rather than simulate a storm, Gareth chose something he figured Jex would not be able to resist: Gareth openly talked his way through a case, intentionally making slip-ups along the way while Jex was forced to levitate a few heavy crates. Jex, by some miracle in Gareth's eyes, was able to keep his mouth shut and focus on the Trial at hand. The second trial he engaged in, the Trial of the Spirit, may have led Jex to be the paranoid man he is now. The two delved deep into Jex's psyche, and found that which he feared most: betrayal. The same betrayal he had felt towards his parents for abandoning him, and the fear of Gareth or even Republic security officials to betray him and leave him for dead. The Trial of Insight was the easiest of the trials Jex engaged in. Gareth had pulled some strings, and managed to convince Republic officials to allow Coruscant's very own small-time Crime Lord Rex the Ripper to be interrogated by Jex. The interrogation took three days in total, after which Jex had managed to rat out only accurate leads on his known associates. The Trial of Courage was the most dangerous that he engaged in. Following the Trial of Insight, Gareth was tasked with aiding in finding one of Rex's close associates and known smuggler, Dev Arx. The Padawan went undercover, attempting to purchase spice from the smuggler while wearing a wire. Needless to say, the whole event went sideways after Jex was recognized by one of the thugs Arx had hired as protection. Given the fact that Jex had to subdue Dev while fending off a small band of criminals, the Trial of Courage was considered to have been passed. There was only one Trial left to be completed, and one that Gareth had been reluctant to prepare for his Padawan (and thus, was the last Jex was subjected to). The Trial was set to take place closer to the front lines of the conflict, but Gareth had arranged for Jex to spend time on Alderaan briefly. It, too, was a test: to see if Jex would go rogue to try and speak with his parents. Gareth would have been proud to see his Padawan succeed. That is, if Master Selbuk had made it to Alderaan to pick up his Padawan. Instead, he found himself at the Jedi Temple on the day of the Sacking of Coruscant. He was slaughtered in the conflict. Jex knew that something was wrong when he felt something stirring inside of him that day. Then the waiting began. For days, Jex waited for his master. He never showed. It was only when news broke of the Sacking of Coruscant that Jex knew what had happened to his master. He got in contact with the Order, and was sent to the Jedi Temple on Tython. In a bittersweet day, Jex's loss of Master Selbuk led qualified for the Trial of the Flesh. The Padawan was promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight. For the past six years, Knight Saranth has dutifully followed the will of the Jedi Council. He has adjusted to his rather lonely lifestyle, travelling throughout the Republic on various assignments. He has not yet taken a padawan, but has been asked to help train padawans on a regular basis. His most recent case has been a lecture for initiates on Forensic Pathology. All the while, Jex would spend any downtime he had left at the nearest Jedi Temple, making sure to hone his understanding of Forensics. It was either that, or finding the nearest local police bar to interrogate detectives on their most remarkable cases. He is waiting for the moment the Council the Jedi Council calls him in to give him the role he has been desiring since he became a Padawan: an Investigator.
