They were Ritman high's biggest story in his freshman year. 

In the early days of their freshman year, their father disappeared. The rumors wered that the Alvaro patriarch ran away with a mistress of 20 years, others said that he had gone to his other family, and crueler ones implied that he was murdered by the wife. The truth was that he had simply left. He took his belongings and some of their savings. 

All throughout middle school and junior high he was the lanky kid that fell with a gust of wind, an easy target for bullies. People thought that this would break the boy, but nothing really happened. No meltdowns, no fits, no nothing. Some were disappointed, kids can be cruel that way. 

There were condolences at first when it became all too real. Most were sincere enough, but more were out of pity and cultural expectations. Then there bullies, insensitive to the reality and unaware that this could happen to them too. Would-be saviors helped, part hero-complex, genuine concern, or a form of moral adjustment to feel like the better man.

Life moved on and so did he. The rest of his school years were nothing to write about.

Athletic and social clubs were joined, but nothing quite made him stick out. He was good in school, but nothing to write home about. He was late often and was disruptive enough that he would get detention, but never a problem child. Parties were attended and substances were consumed, but no abuses or stories to make legends out of him. He was there, he just never really stuck around. He was simply too busy trying to rebuild his broken family. 

He started as the biggest story of the year and ended as just another face in a crowded photo.

Mr. Reliable, that's who he is. He's that guy who you know will be the designated driver, the guy who will carry you out of that bar, the guy who everyone knows in town cause he's helped nearly all of them before. He's the guy who does odd jobs seen here and there doing who knows what for someone who needs a hand and some cash to spare. If he's not helping you, he's working for you. Friendly. Kind. Distant.

Everyone likes him enough but very few can say they were close. He always listens to your problems no matter how long you've told the same woes, but never shares his own.  He laughs if there's a joke, a big hearty one at that, but he never seems to make a joke. He's been in nearly all the houses and buildings in town fixing, installing, helping someone or something, but very few, if any, can say they've been in his home for more than a minute. 

He's a Virtuoso in his way, works with his hands, creative, realistic, exceptionally loyal and capable of flexible thinking. His eyes sparkle with ingenuity and wonder when a problem arises, but beneath it is a cloud of darkness very few have the luxury or made the effort to peer through.
