“Honestly, I just wanna put my old life behind me. The things I’ve done... Don’t wanna make a living doing that anymore. Becoming an innkeeper might not be a life full of fun and adventure but I’d take a boring life over one filled with terror.” Dirk finishes his ale and flips the mug over. He looked up to you and leaned forward. “If you’re heading to Gransys there’s a few things you should know. Between here and Gransys are two military camps that can take in travelers to rest and trade. Try and make it to them before it gets too late so you’ll have a safe place to rest. The road between Cassari and the first camp is called the Sea Breeze trail. My camp is on this trail. Fairly safe sans the goblins, but they’re more active at night than the day. Stay on the road and you should be able to avoid them.” Dirk begins to look uneasy however, rubbing his hands together. “The way between the first and second camp will have Iron Hammer bandits. My... Former kin. They have two ambush spots. One will be at an old ruined stone house, they use it for cover. The second is on the highest hill near a large tree. This spot is where most of the newcomers get experience with the work. But don’t misunderstand; none of those men have the same morals as me. They go knowing what they’re doing. I don’t know how you feel about killing men, but don’t expect any mercy.” Finally Dirk let his hands go and asked for a refill. When he got it he immediately chugged the mug and let out a satisfied sigh, and slightly tipsy. “And finally... When you reach the second camp, your going to have to go through a mountain pass. Treacherous place filled with monsters. Goblins and harpies an shite. Fortunately the Iron Hammer don’t set up ship there but there’s no garuntee other gangs won’t be hiding there. So you got two ways to head here. If you go over the top of the mountains, goblins, harpies, and maybe falling rocks. Dangerous, I was gunna avoid it. The other is around the base. It’s a long trip, treacherous terrain, and likely where other bandits hide out. I was collecting money to try and pay for safe passage. You’ll need at least a hundred coins for each stop, and maybe more if they’re greedy. Even after you get out from the mountain unless you take no breaks you won’t reach the city until the afternoon, or even night. So you got all the night monsters to contend with too.” Dirk seemed depressed for some reason as he laid his head on the table. “And to think, I thought I could make it to Gransys all on my lonesome. What a joke.”
