[b]Appearance:[/b] Hekla stands at a very skinny 6’ 1”, almost to the point of looking malnourished, though they stand with a habitual stoop that masks their full height a bit. Their hair is straight and platinum blond, almost white. They usually keep their hair in a simple ponytail, which doesn’t fully disguise that it’s often unkempt and droopy. A few bangs fall across Hekla’s face, which they fiddle with when they’re bored, nervous, annoyed… pretty much any time, really. Their eyes are a startlingly bright blue, and stand out all the more because of the pair of slim, black glasses that frame them. Hekla’s expression is more or less always some variant of “sleepy”, unless someone starts talking to them about their research into the Silent World (specifically, the areas to the south and east of the known world) - then Hekla’s entire face lights up like a Christmas tree.

As for clothing, Hekla usually wears a lab coat that, in contrast to the shabbiness of the rest of their appearance, is almost always in pristine condition. Under the lab coat, they wear the utilitarian clothing most everyone else favors, with an eye towards jumpers, overalls, and the color blue.

[b]Personality:[/b] Hekla tends to come off as kinda standoffish and cold at first glance. They avoid eye contact, keep their sentences short, clipped, and formal, and sometimes they just don’t respond when someone says something to them. However, as with many similar people, Hekla is not actually the ice cold, professional-to-a-fault scientist that they unwittingly portray themselves as, but instead they’re just really awkward and don’t like talking very much. In fact, they go out of their way to avoid talking as much as they can, and tend to communicate mostly by writing, sign language, and gesturing, though they do talk out loud when necessary.

Underneath their quiet exterior, though, beats the heart of a wanderer and scholar. Hekla is possessed of a wanderlust so strong that it is almost physically painful for them to not to learn more about the world, whether by studying it from afar or, ideally, going out and visiting those places themselves. As a result, Hekla has a surprisingly ardent drive to expand the Known World, motivated by a want to explore the world humanity was pushed out of so long ago. They don’t have the physique to be on the front lines, however, so they help the best way they can: by studying trolls and recovered artifacts, and passing on any information relevant to the retaking of the world. Despite that, they daydream often about being an explorer themselves...

[b]Present Circumstances:[/b] Currently, Hekla lives in Bornholm, working with Danish researchers to study the Silent World and the artifacts that the expeditions sent into it have recovered. Hekla does a bit of everything around their workplace, but their main job is as a translator, from German, English, and Dutch into Icelandic.
