Neither a demigod nor a magician cannot sense the presence of other demigods or magicians, nor can they tell if a magician is a host. Set and Sobek were able to sense each other, that's all. They communicated that to their hosts. 
Additionally, the 18[sup]th[/sup] nome was a rogue magician's base until the Kanes destroyed Apophis. Regardless, most magicians except for those at the 21[sup]st[/sup] nome discourage and distrust magicians who follow the Path of a God (ex Leonid or Felix), let alone those who Host gods (ex Aster or Walt).
