Now, she is relentless and unforgiving. Her petals are slowly plucked by off-world corporations, privateers, and marauders. Despite the United Star Sector's attempts to police Nautrias, the ocean planet falls outside of their jurisdiction. The ruling species of the planet, the Droquilian, have claimed sovereignty from all off-world governing bodies. No one knows Nautrias like its own. Therefore, an outsider's rule with no droquilian voice among their senate has no say in Nautrias affairs. This attitude was heavily influenced by The Obsidian's Hand, a powerful corporation who promised a lucrative partnership in return for their loyalty. Because of their greed and short-sighted hubris, the droquilians shook Obsidian's Hand, essentially handing over the keys to their domain. Twenty years later, the flood gates remain open for free enterprise, inviting any and all who wish to gut Nautrias of its riches ― for a significant fee, of course. The Obsidian’s presence on Nautrias is overwhelmingly insistent. Whether droning on the surface with their oil rigs, or mining down below with their underwater cities, they've built a home for themselves. Yet, as they dive deeper into the abyss, the droquilian fear they'll discover what their ancestors tried to keep hidden since the dawn of their species... A large droquilian contingent of anti-Obsidian outliers came to the United Star Sector for help. Through a political power play, a droquilian was inducted into the USS Senate within a matter of years. This allowed the USS the wiggle room necessary to operate within Nautrias territory. It also caused a civil war between the droquilian, igniting the seas into chaos. We stare into mayhem from the plank, ready to dive feet first into Nautrias' maelstrom, to rid this planet from its corruption. We are The Trident, arbiters of the balance, and we will free Nautrias once and for all from Obsidian's grasp... The Hermitica Cluster it is attached to was discovered only 100 years ago by The Obsidian’s Hand, hiding in plain site from its not-so-distant Milky Way neighbor. An exotic variety of aquatic life exists along its surface and subsurface layers. The few islands and small land masses that peak from its oceans aren’t populated by its natives, leaving them vacant for (very select few) off-worlders to colonize. The true beauty lies beneath. There are colorful reefs, creatures of all shapes and sizes, and a diverse community of sea dwellers thrive within a dynamic ecosystem.

Droquilian: These sentient rulers of Nautrias are characterized by a number of specific features like slick, scaly skin, webbed appendages, pointy ears, and gills along the side of their necks and cheeks. The royal caste are known to have smoother skin with softer cosmetics, a strong indicator of a sheltered life from the wild ocean. Their history is a complicated one, rife with conflict among themselves, until other species emerged from the lower depths to challenge their supremacy. It wasn’t until the partnership formed with Obsidian’s Hand, did the Droquilian’s split into two rivaling factions: -Puricons: While they honor old traditions above all, they mainly wish to secure their legacy as rulers of Nautrias. Zolfix leads this front and serves as a liaison between the puricons and Obsidian’s Hand. They believe in a fractured democracy, on that suits their comforts and needs above all else. -Coalition: These droquilian are sympathizers of the other species in the Nautrias community. The Coalition was formed as a protest against the radical changes being made by Obsidian’s Hand. They demand a fair government, but most importantly, want the off-world corporation to leave their planet for good.

United Star Sector: The largest governing body in the cosmos, spanning over several charted galaxies, including the Milky Way. They enforce strict policies to regulate trade and maintain diplomatic negotiations for all USS-compliant species. They’ve existed for as long as anyone can remember, founded by alien races that have since gone extinct. Their mission statement still burns bright, as the torchbearers of their work continue to light the way for peace and exploration. High Command essentially functions as a large senate cabinet. Each member represents the main star clusters of charted space. Rear Admiral Gildeon Omarkei oversees the operations in Nautrias, and green lit The Trident force into action. The Trident: Backed by Rear Admiral Gildeon Omarkei, this unconventional team of specialists are at the front lines to help liberate Nautrias from Obsidian’s Hand. They are not recognized as USS Officers, listed as peacekeeping volunteers under the droquilian coalition directive. The Trident is nearing its second year of activity, bringing in a batch of new faces, new equipment, and new objectives.

Obsidian’s Hand: An alien corporation that’s existed before humanity’s first steps into FTL travel, established sometime during the early days of the United Space Sector. It’s rumored that Obsidian’s Hand contributed to Earth’s technological advancement that allowed them to colonize other planets. Their scope is boundless, amassing fleets of advanced ships to expand their industry across the galaxy. Their board of representatives and CEO are classified as Synthoids, a species that achieved complete resonance with advanced technology. In the public eye, they exist as holograms that can transfer through the data stream of any Obsidian-owned piece of tech in seconds. Their onsite workforce executives are usually natives of whichever star system the company operations oversee. Zolfix, a droquilian puricon, is the co-executive for Obsidian's Hand operations on Nautrias, which is managed by by synthoid Urien Nakan.

Technology: Nautrias’ turbulent underwater environment can be a deadly arena for the uninitiated. With its strong planetary magnetosphere and dense atmospheric pressure, it can take off-worlders a full month in an acclimation chamber before they’re ready to go out into the wild. Minor gene therapy and musculoskeletal treatment is recommended if the off-worlder still can’t function after bracing the A-Chamber. Should their bodies reject, or cannot qualify for the second phase, then Tech Suits are usually issued. An off-worlder that needs a Tech Suit must have it on at all times. The exception for this of course would be the A-chamber, or a room that replicates the off-worlder’s home planet. All of these steps are usually carried out in orbit at the U.S.S. outposts’ medical facility. Universal Translators: These are an optional privilege given via USS Medical & Research, but mandatory for all Trident members. It is a small device surgically implanted behind the ear, or wherever auditory sensory input is located on the person, allowing for real time translation. Standard USS dive suits come equipped with a more dated version of these devices that are riddled with translation errors. Neural link: Is another optional privilege given by USS Medical & Research. This allows instant internet and communications browsing, and connects with the Universal Translator to keep its language database up-to-date. Specialties: Miniature drones: are a staple for recon, patching up ship and facility damage, and attacking/defending with precision. Creature Taming: a select few have the ability to catch and train wild creatures of Nautrias to do their bidding, use various methods of brain wave tech, drones (that pulse electric shocks to keep them from lashing out), and general pet-bonding techniques. Weapons: While laser and projectile-based weaponry can be used on topside and pressurized excursions, Sonic wave generated firearms are the preferred choice. This is especially the case on board dive vessels. Acoustic wave blasts specifically designed to hit their targets has a low risk of compromising vehicle instruments and pedestrian casualties.

TIMELINE
♦ 2027: Obsidian’s Hand makes contact with Nautrias. As you've read above, we are part of The Trident, an active force representing the United Star Sector & Droquilian Coalition. Our objective is to police the friendly waters of our native allies, stop illegal drilling, hunting, and resource-gathering, from anyone ― especially from the Obsidian's Hand ― by any means necessary. Expect high action, drama, horror, and a fun time underwater! Please keep in mind that I'll be looking for the following: - Respect - This is an easy one. We're all here to have fun, so any negative comments or attitudes expressed in OOC won't be tolerated. - At least 2 paragraphs - Posts will need to have enough on them for players to work with. Decent grammar and punctuation. - Smedium-sized Group - 6-7 players max, including myself. If you don't get accepted though, don't worry! There will be an opportunity to join again. - NO GOD MODE (KINDA) - I’d like to to let everyone loose in small excursions against regular bad guys, but special events that usually drive the story will have posts that say: GOD MODE OFF. When that happens, you’re not allowed to execute an action and state the consequence, just the action. For example: Regular action post: Aquaman throws Trident at Lagoon Creature, making it explode upon impact! GOD MODE OFF post: Aquaman throws Trident at Lagoon Creature, hoping that if he hits his target, it’ll decapitate the monster for good. GM REPLY: Aquaman’s Trident successfully lances the Lagoon Creature, however it doesn’t explode, it gets even more pissed off and turns SUPER SAIYAN LAGOON CREATURE BLUE! *PM me for questions about this mechanic. - Dependability - I completely understand how RL can be. That being said, it's unfair for your fellow players if you outright leave without saying a word. I'm looking for long term players for sure, but most importantly, communicators. I don't mind at all if you don't feel like you can post, or even want to when it's your turn, just let me know so we can work around it. :)
