Eryn Montero

[sup]Route 5 || Day 3: Afternoon[/sup]

Hearing that the egg would hatch soon had Eryn in high spirits through lunch and the early afternoon, and the information she got about the nearby Pokemon told her that Route 5 was probably the easiest route to grind on. Route 6 came with a warning to not train there, and from a glance at the Pokedex’s list of Pokemon for Route 6, Eryn figured that it was just as well. Trying to train against fire-types with her current team wasn’t the best strategy, frankly, and she was looking to train, not struggle. That said, since when was she about to let “danger” stop her? After the Infested Woods and the Wet Caverns, somewhere called the Vast Plains didn’t seem so intimidating. Just as quickly as she arrived at Lakewatch Town, Eryn left it, knowing full well she’d return soon enough. From what she knew about eggs, they hatched faster when their carrier was travelling, but now that she was thinking about it, that seemed strange. What did an egg know about distance and travel? Many an egg hatched in a barn, after all, and if it weren’t for her picking up the Onix egg, it would have stayed in the caverns until it hatched, travelling only within Onix’s territory. Still, even if it was just time that affected hatching, Eryn figured a little light travelling never hurt. Though that meant Tula was going to have to stay in her ball for the moment, given that neither she nor the egg was particularly light, Eryn had plans for her training-wise, and that began with tracking down some unsuspecting Caterpies and Scatterbugs. As soon as she did, out came Tula to absolutely mash the living daylights out of them—or so Eryn would cheer her on to do. In reality, Tula got in a hit here and there, eventually managing to Struggle the energy out of her opponent, but every time Eryn would cheer her on anyway. Nothing short of the best encouragement would do, especially for the fish she couldn’t carry at the moment. Thankfully, Dei and Kylie excelled against the grass-types, Kylie’s poison immunity coming into use as always, and though Eri struggled a bit on the route owing to his less than optimal typings, he got going after a few trips to the Pokemon Center. Though trekking back and forth was a bit boring, it was more distance and therefore enrichment for the egg, and it was also more time for Eryn to mull over Kylie and Eri’s new moves. From the Pokedex entries, neither move was amazing. If Eryn was being biased, she’d put it down to the fact that they were normal-type moves, but hey, equal opportunity. Everyone needed to start somewhere. After training, she tracked down some trainers to fight, and by tracked down she meant “fought anyone who seemed to be up for it.”
First up was an unassuming girl musing about the Moss and Ice Stone. Eryn, though, wasn’t too interested in rocks, especially not non-collectable ones, and she got the girl’s attention enough to get the girl to challenge her and call out a Buneary. “Normal-type. Right, Kylie, you’re up,” Eryn said, glancing at her trusty steel-type. Kylie walked to the field slowly, matching the Buneary’s natural cuteness with a few bats of her eye, which drew a smile from Eryn. Leave it to Kylie to make everything a competition. “Blow ‘em away,” Eryn said, grinning.

For the Buneary, Kylie’s going to stick with Fairy Wind for the most part, resorting to Bite when the Buneary gets close enough. For the Hoppip, Eryn will swap to Dei to make short work of it with Ember, then switch back to Kylie for the Eevee for a slew of Bites, matching Sand-Attacks with Sweet Scents. After the battle, she’ll ask the girl where the Moss and Ice Stone might be because, well, information.

The second trainer led with a rather strange statement, but his tone reassured Eryn that he deserved a blow or two to his ego. “Tell me where you got that dragon if I beat you?” Eryn asked, waving Kylie forwards when she saw his Koffing. A scan from her Pokedex told her that he was in for a tough time.

Kylie will Bite the Koffing down. Then Fairy Wind the Roggenrola. Then Fairy Wind the Gible. If Kylie, for some unknown reason, is knocked out, Eryn will switch to Dei for Embers. After the battle, she’ll apologize, tease the boy about focusing too much on his dragon, then ask him where he got it and who the ‘she’ he was talking about is.

After a quick run to the Pokemon Center, the next person Eryn ran into had her raising her brows. He was awfully intense for someone who’d just come back from the Frozen Caves, but Eryn admired that. “Eri, you’re up,” she said, glancing at her dark-type. Maybe she’d try out his new disguises this battle.

Pursuit Bronzor, recall to try a Diglett disguise against the Gothita with Fake Tears and then Pursuit, then recall and try on an Onix against the Woobat with, that’s right, more Pursuits after a Leer. If he gets knocked out, Eryn will try Tula, then Dei will come in with Embers, then Kylie with Bites. After the battle, she’ll ask how the Frozen Caves were.

After another trip to the Pokemon Center back in town, Eryn tracked down another opponent in an older-looking man dressed for travel. His age and gear told Eryn that he wasn’t going to be as easy to take down as the previous few opponents, and she grinned. “Hey, I have a water-type, so if I win this battle, how about you take me ruin-diving?” she asked, waving Kylie forwards when the man called out a Sandile.

Kylie will match Sand-Attack with Sweet Scent before defaulting to Fairy Winds. Eryn will keep Kylie out to get in a Taunt before swapping to Dei and Smokescreening before sticking with Embers. For Nuzleaf, she’ll get in a comment—“Alright, I’m impressed. That’s a cool Pokemon.”—before swapping to Kylie to Taunt, then main Fairy Winds. If she faints, Eryn will swap to Eri to fake an Onix and get in a Leer before sticking with Pursuits, then Eryn will call out Dei to finish it up with Smokescreen and Ember antics. If Dei gets close to fainting too, for some reason, Eryn will call out Tula and use a potion on Dei before having him continue with Embers. Whatever it takes, at that point (but hopefully it doesn't go that far). After the battle, she’ll reiterate her offer, showing Tula off (if her hand is forced and she hasn’t already) and promising that if there’s one thing the Magikarp can do, that’s swim (and Struggle butt).

Actions: Actions in hiders above.
