Eryn Montero

[sup]Route 5 || Day 3: Afternoon || [@PlatinumSkink][/sup]

“Awkward thing is, I’m not quite sure myself. I caught Kylie back in the Trainer School in Pureplain, but I think the Pokemon there vary,” Eryn admitted, bending down to check Kylie over. A visit to the Pokemon Center it was. “Huh, I’ve been to the Infested Forest, and I don’t think that’s where it is. Unless I missed it entirely, which is possible too.” Eryn shrugged. “I’m heading into the Frozen Cave sooner or later, and probably whatever forest I reach. How about we trade details and I’ll keep you updated in case I find something?”

Battling the kid was almost sad given the poison-types he’d pulled out, and by the time he got around to his dragon-type, it was clear he’d been a little loose with his trainer basics. “Hey kid, tests aren’t everything. You gotta get that field experience in, okay? Sitting in a room with a paper and pencil a bit different than trying to remember key details on the fly, okay?” she said after Kylie secured a victory with a haughty “Maw.” Then, after receiving the measly 5P while struggling not to pull a face, she listened intently to the info Adrian provided, her brows raising when he mentioned the Lakewatch underbellies. Was the kid really talking about buying from Pokemon smugglers right now? It would explain his utter lack of funds, but wow, Eryn had pegged him as somewhat innocent and naive, but that picture had just gone out the window. “Kid, you’re lucky that dragon even listens to you then. Haven’t you heard the horror stories about smugglers and the terrible things poached Pokemon go through? As a trainer don’t you feel any obligation to yourself, or even to your Pokemon, to be a better person?” Eryn shook her head. “Well, whatever. Let this be your wake-up call. I beat you fair and square, so being honest is possible, alright? You got it? Kid!” Aaaand he was gone. “What a downer, Kylie. But whatever, back to training. Can’t speak out against poaching if we don’t have some muscle to back our words up,” Eryn said, looking the trainers around her over. “And, since you’re still in good health, we’ll skip the Center trip for the moment and challenge… how about that weird dude over there? Yeah? Yeah.”

Eryn barely hid a grin as Eri pulled of his disguises. The point hadn’t been to trick the psychic, per se, since Eri was naturally immune to psychic-type moves, but getting her opponent to throw away a move or two was a plus. The psychic’s instant celebration as he set about beating Eri dampered her mood, though, and she was forced to recall Eri after another hit. “Good job, Eri. You did great,” she said, putting away his Pokeball. Her eyes lit up as she swapped his for another, grinning anew. “Here we go, Tutu! Show ‘em who’s boss!” The psychic’s silence and Tula’s subsequent knockout Struggle had Eryn lapse into a brief cheering fit, running onto the field to scoop Tula up around the egg Eryn had been holding. “Amazing. Pure awesomeness, Tula,” Eryn finished, giving Tula a final squeeze before setting the flapping Magikarp down. “I’ll get you primped up at the Pokemon Center in a sec, alright? And yes it had to be a Magikarp. That’s what you get for celebrating so early,” she said, setting an arm on her hip. “But, as we discussed, how about those caves?” The Frozen Caves sounded pretty unwelcoming for a soon-to-be destination, and Eryn felt cold just looking at the mountain in the distance. As much as she disliked the cold, though, ice-types were both literally and figuratively cool, and she wouldn’t pass up a chance to see them in their element for anything. “I’ll take it,” Eryn said, accepting the Soothe Bell. “Thanks, and thanks for the info. I just might check out mining. I take it you didn’t?”

While the battle with the Sandile went as expected, the Magnemite’s critical hit was absolutely not part of the plan, and Eryn’s brows knit when she attempted to recall Kylie with zero results. A glance down at her Pokedex screen explained it, though, and she slapped her forehead with her free hand. “Arceus, damn it.” Fishing around her bag, she pulled out her Potion, then called Kylie over to spray it on the slightly singed steel-type. “Right, take him down with Bite, Kylie,” Eryn said, patting the Mawile’s back as she sent her back into the fray. While defense was the speciality of most steel-types, Bite was still a significantly stronger move compared to Fairy Wind, and what Eryn needed now was to quickly take down this Pokemon to see what the next one was.

After the Potion (and another hit from the Magnemite), Kylie should be able to take down the Magnemite who she’s hopefully faster against in a few moves. Then, as stated before, she’ll be thrown in for a Taunt, absorbing whatever normal-type and grass-type attacks the Nuzleaf throws her way. After the Taunt, she’ll opt for Fairy Winds until she goes down, after which Eryn will call out Eri to throw in some Fury Swipes after a Fake Tears, then opt for Dei with Embers to finish it off. Hopefully the Fake Tears softens the Nuzleaf up enough for it to go down so Eryn doesn’t have to resort to Tula and Struggle haha…

Actions: Actions in hiders above.
