Well I am interested. Made a character to apply for this.
Primary Alias: Mathias Worgaff Appearance: Walking around 5 foot 4 inches long, wearing 155 pounds, decently fed. A fellow with ginger hair, roundish face decorated with few small moles and stubby nose under brown, small eyes. He's around 30 years old more or less, dresses in good cotton pants, fine dark velvet jacket, which he hides under a traveler's cloak. Equipment: Mathias has few satchels on his belt along with a dagger. A backpack, donkey and cart in which he has a tent, goods to sell and a small, simple, locked wooden chest. He has a Merchants guild's book which contains information on area's notable persons and local goods, as well as an account which contains his goods and trades. Reputation: Mathias is a somewhat welcome sight at marketplaces and fairs. He enjoys a good haggle. He might be exaggerating a bit or even lie to sell his goods, but his cloths are usually desired at countryside and fresh goods are welcome to people in towns. He's quite sparing with his coin but not an unlikely visitor to taverns. Recent History: Mathias was a wandering merchant, selling goods from town to town, marketplace to marketplace. Good king's reign has made it hard to make profit and when he crossed lands, tolls and fines took a good share of his profit and let a little to live with. Every now and then he made a decent money to buy good clothing, fine animals and equipment of value which he sold off with some profit, but it felt like the times are getting tougher. So two years ago, he stocked up real good, hired a guard for himself and decided to try his luck in a city of Karath. He had heard that the Merchant's guilds were not keen on rivals outside of their guild, whereas muggers and thieves would welcomed them. Mathias had to pay demanding taxes for his goods and a greater fine to sell at local marketplace. There he and his companion would have hard time keeping sticky fingers out of his cart and with his goods being the target for thieves, buyers weren't too eager to visit his stand. He joined one of the Karath's many guilds to have some relief to his woes. Now he had a monthly fee to cover with his incomes, but thieves started to avoid his cart as he now could use Rockmark's guild's place at market, which was also of lower rent thanks to his new membership. Fines dropped down when he traveled through the lands and even more so when he let go of his guard. And for time, Mathias thought he had made a bargain. However he soon learned the darker sides of the guild. The Guild always made it sure that his markings were adding up with the merchandise on the cart and coin in his chest. From time to time his better goods were confiscated for Rockmark's wellfare. And he soon learned that part of his coin was used to hire the very thieves and muggers to harass the rivalry not belonging in a guild. But he turned the blind eye, as he was still making his coin more steadily than ever before. But truth was, he was not going to make it bigger by playing it safe. But then there was a fair. And among the sellers a local, whose mother had died in a sudden fire, rumored to be arson and few whispered the cause to be Inquisition. From her belongings, which survived from fire and were now on sale, Mathias found notes hidden behind fake back cover of a book. Not of any notes, but those copied from Old Mage's Academy. Mathias knew of this item's danger but also of it's great value to a right buyer. Hence he made a bargain of his life and bought the book, and started to study the notes. For what good is the product if you don't know it's usage?
