Serendipity means a "fortunate happenstance" or "pleasant surprise". A type of discovery that is by chance and wisdom: something unexpected is observed, and the observer is wise to perceive its potential value. The term was coined by Horace Walpole in 1754. In a letter he wrote to his friend Horace Mann, Walpole explained an unexpected discovery he had made about a painting of Bianca Cappello by Giorgio Vasari by reference to a Persian fairy tale, The Three Princes of Serendip. The princes, he told his correspondent, were "always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things which they were not in quest of". ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰ It's the new academic year in New York University, New York, New York. New and old students are now roaming the school halls. Nothing seems to be out of ordinary--even a certain poster found on the main bulletin board for announcements is nothing new for the older students. It's here every year, though the page layout and the font may change, the content is always the same and it remains there for the whole club recruiting period. This year is no different. If someone ever comes to notice it, they will read the following: "Swaggity Swoomate We need roommates!! Are you shy, nerd and/or socially awkward? Is your idea of a goodnight watching Disney Movies until 3 in the morning? Do you have 7 OTPs and a shipping problem? We need trustworthy roommates who won't try to make our lives a living hell and will actually let us sleep without testing our limits. We offer one small suite with six rooms (you will be sharing your room with a roommate), a kitchen area, a living room and shared bathroom. No drinking or drug use. No pets except socially awkward fish. We are all splitting the rent and other expenses, and after taking account your financial situation we can negotiate the price which you'll have to turn in every month. However, by moving in, you will be agreeing to join and actively attend the "Happiness Club" a college club made specifically for us. If you are not willing to join the club, you're unfortunately not welcome to move in with us." Upon reading this, many would instantly turn around and pretend they never read it. Who would even want to move in with a group of weabos after all? But some are undoubtedly interested in the offer. They may think that these are their kind of people, or even if they aren't, the rent deal is pretty reasonable and the pictures attached to the house look pretty neat and their criteria for moving in don't sound like a much of a big deal. This weird tradition of the club members being roommates happened a long time ago when the original members of the "Happiness" Club were kicked out of their dorm because they annoyed the hell out of their roommates. That was when they found this small suite and the rent wasn't outrageous so they decided to split it up together. However, as the house was too big for them, they decided to make a poster about recruiting new roommates. The new roommates were soon interested in the club and decided to join. The "Happiness" club’s main mission still remains to be the same as back then-- to spread happiness and smiles across campus in simple ways. They chalk streets, post funny pictures and give out free lemonade and hugs. It's no wonder that they love making new friends and adding new members to their family. They welcomed everyone in their club and let them move in with them. When the old members were about to graduate, they voted for a new leader and decided to keep the small suite strictly for its members. Each year they remake the poster, drop it, and hope that interests gather. Thus this tradition came to be and continued until present day. And now another year begins, another new start for the "Happiness" Club members--what awaits for them in the future? Ready your keyboards my friends, cause there is no turning back!
