Yes, they would. Probably not extremely well, but they'll be acquaintances at the very least. That way it will eliminate that annoying round of posts where everyone is introducing themselves needlessly. On another note, as I said before this will be mainly driven by creativity. To keep the plot rolling there will most likely be a series of time skips if things begin to get too stale. (no one wants to spend twenty post rounds trying to get across the continent)
