The days on Yvolda last thirty hours long, however the year itself has less days than Earth years, resulting in the age of it’s colonists being listed as being higher than it would have been if they were on Earth. In addition, the planet has lower working ages than those of other planets due to harsher conditions. The working age is from eleven Earth years old upwards, and they are expected to support the planet by working alongside their studies as well as anything extracurricular, leaving them questionable amounts of free time. Of course, being that young means that a child can’t very much work in physical fields, however learning to use IT and helping with electronic and non-physical tasks is still a contribution. All colonists are expected to partake in a Planetary Security And Public Defence course after the age of nine Earth years old and before the age of fifteen Earth years that lasts a total of three Yvoldan months. The reason for such harsh laws is due to the hazardous conditions that most of the planet is involved in. There are few habitable locations on the surface, and even then, the conditions of the surrounding lands often blows over into the habitable locations. Sandstorms and snowstorms out of nowhere, caused not just by the planet itself but also by failed terraforming attempts that drive the atmosphere wild due to the terraforming projects not being complete. Everyone is expected to contribute, at least until the environment can be somewhat stabilised enough for it to be consistently safe. But it’s not just the flora that the colonists have to be worried about. All of Yvolda III’s colonists have to be ready to defend themselves against the native fauna, too. The wildlife is very dangerous and poses a threat that would rather have had the planet skipped over if it had been discovered before colonisation - as it is, too much money has been contributed toward the colonisation and terraforming efforts to pull out now. It’s that lack of pulling out that has sparked the existence of the Free Yvoldan Angels, the main source of terrorism and rebellion on Yvolda III. The FYA claim that if the corporations aren’t going to pull out and keep forcing people to work in such a horrible environment, Yvolda should be able to split off from the corporative planetary government and form their own. The FYA both engage in terrorist tactics as well as direct-action conflicts against the UAF detachment on Yvolda III.
Appearance Physically, Kivi has long, blonde hair that slips down her back in delicate lines and slips down the sides of her head, and she has bluish green eyes. Her face itself looks too soft and graceful for the soldier that she is, but her body makes up for that in having a strong but slender form. Whilst she is on-duty, Kivi is usually wearing her full LASHE suit (see equipment) as well as her other equipment and with the additional plating and wrist armour, however when off-duty she wears the same but without all of the extra utilities and armour. She also has a dress uniform, for formal duties and events that she so chooses to wear it at. Personality Kivi has two sides to her; she has a side that operates like she could die tomorrow, and a side that schemes for the future. Whilst she is off duty, she is usually relaxed and chilled out, because she knows if anything tried to take her on she could probably kick it’s ass. She is confident in this way, keeping herself up by the fact that she knows she can push through whatever comes to her, whether it be physical, mental or emotional. Even whilst she is on-duty, this confidence continues to strive; she knows the limitations of what she can do, of which there aren’t that many true limitations. Kivi doesn’t believe that in the military, you can actually find time to properly relax and be off-duty. As such, it isn’t uncommon for her to keep a pistol strapped to her sides at all times, even whilst off-duty. Even then, she barely has any casual clothes of her own, not having really brought or bought any since she joined the UAF in the first place, and so whilst off-duty she still wears a uniform, albeit not her combat wear. Plus, she likes how she looks, and takes advantage of that to admire herself. Whilst Kivi can be friendly in general, she does not put up with stupidity in dangerous situations, and even then, she has a pet peeve of people who lack common sense. She isn’t afraid of separating off to spend time by herself just to avoid a group of people that she finds (or currently finds) to be idiots or acting idiotically. Whilst in a dangerous situation, she places making that dangerous situation into a safe situation above anything else, unless it benefits her in one way or another to keep that dangerous situation as dangerous. Kivi will look at every single option before her in order to make a choice as to what action to take. If you were to generalise what she is, it would be a Soldier (or more specifically, a COVSPEC Commando), able to be involved in direct-action as well as covert and special operations. However with a wide variety of skills she is able to contribute in other related fields; She can be assigned to assist security if needed, and has investigative, interrogative and reconnoitering skills that can be utilised where she is required. Formally, her rank is navy Petty Officer First Class (E-6), but her COVSPEC status can often complicate relations and the true meaning behind the rank. Equipment Augmentations

Heads Up Display and Information Optical Augmentation, able to visually provide information as well as overlay information. As well as there being general information always visible, it allows her to look at something to utilise the Highlighted INformation Telemetry (HINT) system of the augmentation, which shows possible hints on something she is trying to analyse, such as if a weapon has malfunctioned what that could be (misfire, jamming, etc.) or help to cut down information visibly if required by the user (“The man with a scar over his right eye, small lips, brown eyes, long black hair, a red jacket, blue jeans and a yellow bracelet has a datapad, a pistol, a knife, grenades and the keycard you are looking for.” turns into “The man with the red jacket is armed and has the keycard.”)
Implanted Low-Burst Communications Implant, an augmentation that allows for Kivi to communicate with her mind. Whilst that sounds amazing, it is not as great as the name sounds; the augmentation allows for a stealthy, low frequency and small burst of communication. It is unable to transfer that large of a communication, and sending the transmission as text rather than audio allows for more to fit into the transmission. “ASSISTANCE NEEDED - DETECTION IMMINENT” is near enough the extent the augmentation can transmit. One of it’s main saving graces is the range, for it can transmit to low orbit if need-be.
Weapons

The 4PPL-3 Adjustable Action Rifle, also known as the “Apple”, is a coilgun with a large amount of customizability. It has a central section to it that contains most of the weapon’s essential parts; the magazine well, gas chamber, and other key parts are contained in there. The central section itself is uncustomizable, though some of the parts within can be extracted and adjusted based on user preference. Everything else is free game, though - the stock, the grip, barrel and even the location of the trigger can be adjusted and customised to best suit the user of the weapon and the environment that the weapon is going to be used in. Though the central section of the rifle is not removable and is a set size, some users make a game out of seeing how small they can make a 4PPL-3 and still make it able to shoot straight, whereas on the other hand some people shove as many parts onto it to see how stupidly bulky and large they can make it. The weapon as a whole is reliable within the military as it is easy to adjust on the fly; someone wielding the 4PPL-3 can be told to be a marksman one day and a CQB breacher the next day, and just adjust the scope and barrel.
The 2W366, nicknamed the “Shade” by covert operation and special operation infantry, and is widely used by those troops. It has a stable but light weight, and has a suppressor built into it, allowing it to be whisper-quiet when it fires. The sound is not related to the firepower, however; it’s rounds are designed to penetrate a target and split rapidly on the inside into many fragments without applying a lot of kinetic force to the target itself. If you were standing and talking to someone and they were suddenly hit from a 2W366 round, they would just crumple over on the spot, making less noise than if they were to suddenly slam into the ground.
A variable-position diamond-edged quick-assault blade. Similar to a combat knife but a helluva lot sharper, the quick-assault blade used by special forces is able to cut through metal and flesh alike - stab vest? More like shrapnel. The blade itself can be adjusted to be more like a knuckle duster if needed, however most operators usually keep it in the traditional knife orientation. Kivi has two of these; one of them is in its sheath in public display, the other is inside the sole of her boot, in a hidden compartment.
Equipment

Kivi wears the Light Armoured Tactical Stealth and Hostile Environment (LASHE) Suit. This suit (visible in Kivi’s appearance picture at the very top and under this section) comes mainly as a bodysuit with extra armour pieces on it. There are theories and rumours that the armour was designed that way because the top brass and the clever heads who designed it believed it would look quite appealing on female COVSPEC (with infantry agreeing, to the grumbling of the female operatives who had to wear it), however it’s utility cannot be faulted. The suit is completely sealed save for the head, meaning those wearing a helmet are completely vacuum-proof and protected against gas and air agents that could harm the body by penetrating through skin. It also completely wipes a thermal signature from the wearer, leaving them as cold as the background when viewed through heat-detecting devices. The bodysuit itself is built of a tight-knit semi-metal alloy fabric, allowing it to be somewhat soft and comfortable for the user yet be able to act as light armour against light projectiles. The protectiveness of the bodysuit is effective against light pistols, anything higher than that will tear through that, however that’s what the outside armour is for. A wearer of a suit will wear most of their armour at the top of their bodies, since it’s expected their lower half will be behind cover. The suit also connects with whatever the user has that can be connected to a HUD. If the user is holding a weapon, then the status of that weapon will feedback to the user’s HUD; ammunition count, any faults, etc.
34GL3 Tactical Support Visor, nicknamed the ‘Eagle’ Visor, is designed for COVSPEC operatives and offers a variety of uses. It acts as a Heads Up Display, and is able to cycle through various visual modes, from normal to Heat and Infrared and night and light enhancement vision. It also contains various menus, which can be accessed and utilised through the user’s eye movements, blinks and winks. The user can even bring up a virtual keyboard in front of them, to the amusement of civilians or standard infantry who see nothing but the user typing in the air. The visor also contains a microphone and transmission card with data network connection ability, so the user can transmit both vocal and textual messages as well as send information like visuals and other data. The Eagle Visor also has a HINT system.
COVSPEC-Issue datapad, built to handle tough falls and shock, as well as handle a low-level EMP with critical functions still available.
Magnetic Coil Projector, a device that looks like a slightly bulky pen, that is able to propel a magnetic-tipped thin coil or tightly-bound rope a considerable distance. Basically, a grappling-hook gun, but magnetic. Kivi carries three reloads (plus one already in the projector).
Miscellaneous other equipment.
Previous Branch Kivi was, just like she currently is, a member of COVSPEC as a commando, involved in various different operations and many different tasks. Vice Admiral Yandara was subsequently arrested twelve days later for reasons classified by UAF Public Relations.
Biography Kivi was born on the planet Yvolda III, in the habitable area of the Yvolda system. As with any child on Yvolda III, she had a tough upbringing due to the harsh conditions of the world, and also due to her parents who wanted her to be strong whenever the worst of the struck. Kivi always claims that her childhood and upbringing was what made her what she was; it was not often that she took the car to school, having to walk long distances there and wherever else she wanted to go. School on Yvolda was as harsh as the planet itself, with long school days and lessons being battered into the children’s brains - as children were expected to work at the age of eleven, there was little time to spare. People didn’t like the system but could not deny it was effective in making children learn. To get it out of the way early, once she turned eleven, Kivi’s parents immediately slotted her into the Planetary Security And Public Defence (PSPD) course, which was required by planetary law. Young Kivi enjoyed the course as she was a fan of the military. In the classes, she and the other students were taught basic theory on planetside military organisation and tactics, and was taught how to use a weapon. Kivi scored higher on these classes than she was in her mainstream school classes; in fact, she was scoring higher than everyone else in the same PSPD Platoon. Due to this, she was assigned the platoon leader of the platoon, which didn’t mean a lot when it came to theory classes, however in the practical lessons meant that she was leading her group and expected to come up with the main solutions to problems. Eventually, Kivi graduated PSPD school with the highest score of her platoon, and as such, because it was seen as her family being motivated to work hard for Yvolda her parents were given a bonus paycheck, and the offer to enrol Kivi into the Yvoldan Milita Cadet School when enough candidates finished PSPD to form a Cadet Platoon, and when Kivi was old enough. Her parents, wanting the extra paychecks and social climbing, accepted the offer without consulting Kivi - though she enjoyed the military trainings, she despised the fact that she was not asked for approval and forced to commit her free time to such. It was two years later, at the age of thirteen, that Kivi was enrolled into Yvoldan Militia Cadet School. As a high-scoring graduate of PSPD, she was placed as a senior cadet within her cadet platoon, which consisted of four squads of twelve (each lead by a senior cadet) and the cadet platoon command, which was a ‘cadet sergeant’ (a cadet seen to be one of the best in the platoon), and the drill sergeant himself. Most thought that thirteen years old was an age too young to be doing such things, and scolded Yvolda and it’s government for its harsh systems, but it was a necessity on the planet. The cadets went through a more serious training than what had been done in the PSPD course. In fact, it was near enough a cut-down version of the UAF’s training. The Senior Cadet and Cadet Sergeant positions were hard fought and constantly changed, with cadets who were proving themselves to be superior in skill taking over the higher positions and the one who lost that position having to move down a position. All except in Kivi’s case. She remained at the Senior Cadet position, of her cadet squad even as other squad’s Senior Cadet changed around due to her high scores and ability. This lead to jealousy in Kivi’s cadet squad, and she almost paid for it. There was one night in training which threatened Kivi’s life. The cadets, just like if they were official militia members, had to sleep in a barracks, and in that barracks a ‘sentry’ had to stay awake to keep watch, to simulate the real thing. A trio of cadets had decided enough was enough, and wanted to injure Kivi so that she would have to lose the senior cadet position of her squad. The watchman was in on the whole thing and said nothing, and they probably have gotten away with the whole thing if they didn’t make a mistake. If they had simply did something like ambush Kivi and start on her right away, breaking bones and attacking her, there would not have been a chance. However, instead, one of the aggressors put his hand on her arm to try and position himself right for the first strike. The touch on her arm woke her up, and instantly, with three boys over her, she started to fight, striking out and fighting hard. She practically propelled herself away to make distance and room to fight in, and used the skills she had gotten not just in the cadet training but in the PSPD classes; she fought hard and dirty, doing everything she could to win three on one. The fact that she was up and could defend herself scared off one of the cadets, but the other two stayed to fight. By the time the drill instructors turned up after hearing of cadets fighting, the two recruits were battered and broken on the ground, with Kivi remaining on her feet, having taken some strikes but still in one piece. She was hauled away, the other two were taken away to the medics, and Kivi was questioned on what had happened. Kivi was told to get some sleep, and then the next morning, she was promoted to the position of Cadet Sergeant. Though Kivi had aspirations to enlist in the UAF, at the age of thirteen she was still to young when she left the militia cadets. So, after leaving cadet school, she joined the militia forces due to having graduated the militia cadets. Though she was deployed outwith calm lands, she was not deployed as a frontline combat soldier, but instead was always within safe walls, operating logistics and communications in the day and finishing school in the night via virtual learning programmes that the militia provided when she was off shift. As she grew up, she was placed in various other roles. Some point through the age of fourteen, she was directly involved in combat; Free Yvoldan Angel forces attacked the base at which she was stationed and broke through, and she was forced to join the defenders in fighting back the attackers. As tensions rose with the FYA, Kivi was placed in more and more combat situations unpurposefully, and it definitely affected her; it was mostly not the killing that got to her, for at some point she came to accept it, though she was still shaken by it. It was those around her that worried her. Just as she sometimes woke up at night from the terrors of her dreams, so too did those around her. She could hear her friends and comrades sobbing through the night, wondering what was going to happen next, wondering if they were going to be the next one to bite the bullet. It shook her to know that most definitely one of them was going to catch a bullet one day, and that it could perhaps be her. When in a state of planetary war, or as close to it as a planet could be, it was inevitable. In some operations, the Yvolda militia were working alongside the UAF. As she served, she consistently heard comments and snippets of communication from the UAF to her commanding officers, as well as just general chatter amongst the UAF; concern and questions of the morals of having young teenagers involved in the military. Kivi often heard herself being mentioned in such conversations, not just because of her pristine performance but because she was easy to remember, with her long, blonde hair and delicate looks that made her look more like she should have been in a good school on a better planet instead of helping military forces. Indeed, some of the UAF enlisted often came up to talk to her about her and her similarly-aged comrades’ experiences within the militia. If older Kivi was asked (and it was declassified) when she specifically was noticed by COVSPEC, she would point to a point in time when she was sixteen. There was a day where a UAF officer without any branch insignia had decided to talk to her in a mess hall almost as casually as the enlisted before him. Obviously hearing of her specifically from the enlisted still talking about the planet’s harsh working laws, he had come to hear her speak of her experiences. The officer got more than he bargained for or expected, and the conversation dragged on and on until Kivi was back on duty. Tales of her time within PSPD classes, the miltia training and her service, and most importantly and interestingly to the officer, the combat experiences that she had been involved in of which a child on a different planet would never have even had to be worried about. Kivi did not know it at the time, but that officer had been an intelligence officer within COVSPEC. He had worn no insignia not just for secrecy but because the militia forces had a policy to give known intelligence officers as little information as possible, as it was known that there had been several investigations into the fact that the Yvoldan Militia were quite literally, using child soldiers and were looking for a legal way to completely wipe that, which the corporations did not want as it would reduce manpower to fight an almost equal war against the FYA forces. Normally, they were not able to get much dirt on the situation, however they had just found a girl who had a service record with combat in it mentioned periodically. It was not long before all of the children involved in any way with the militia were recalled and immediately removed from duty. Even the dull-minded of Yvolda’s populace noticed the sudden influx of therapists that arrived on the planet, obviously all having belonged to companies that snatched up the sudden contracts they were given for caring for the newly lost children who had previously been shooting and killing men. Kivi herself was almost immediately placed into therapy just like everyone else, and was forced to go month after month listening to someone tell her why she shouldn’t think the way that she was, and forcing her to talk her life story out. To her, the therapy was almost as bad as the killing; forced to recount her experiences over and over again to someone who had never been in the thick of it. However, she never showed an upset emotion in front of the therapists. When she did cry, it was alone, because she wanted to be free of their hold on her. To cry before them would have her be held back, she believed. By the time she was cleared from therapy, Kivi was eighteen. That meant that she could do the one thing that the therapists probably wouldn’t have wanted to do - join the UAF. The military had been all she had known. She couldn’t go into a normal job, into a normal workplace. Plus, she genuinely liked the military and uniformed services, and wanted to leave the shitty planet she was born on behind. It was obvious that the military wanted to perform an evaluation of their own on her, and so Kivi played it cool. She let on nothing was wrong with her, that the therapy of before had helped her get through her troubles - and, to some minor extent, it had. And so she was cleared for duty, and entered recruit training for the UAF. Passing through that with flying colours, Kivi had the luck of only partaking in light skirmishes in her first year in the UAF as well as the occasional bad thing - now that she was actively serving, it wasn’t as much as a worry as it had been beforehand: other soldiers had bad dreams, too. They were all killers, after all. It was after that that she was made to partake in several organised operations, including a few boarding operations in space. In the early years of her career, she had a very good service record - good enough that she was noticed by COVSPEC. Because she had a previous involvement with them albeit how tiny it was, and it was more to do with the fact that her record was one of the prime reasons children were forced to stop fighting on Yvolda rather than about her herself, she was raised in their records as “someone who exists” to “someone who exists who COVSPEC has spoken to or used”, and as such was noticed by someone flying a desk. Entering COVSPEC was hard, and it wasn’t just the training. She had been forced to leave her comrades on Yvolda, and now she was being taken from her comrades in the mainstream UAF to enter COVSPEC. The training was a lot harder than she had experienced before, and not just due to the extremities of it but because she was the prime candidate, the one and only candidate. There was no group of which each person would get washed out, but instead one candidate, being pushed to her limits and then further. What she thought was hard before was trivial compared to training that at some stages could kill her or cause her to be seriously wounded. There was very little praise for the new blood, with a “Well done” here and there. It seemed like the endpoint of the training was never in sight; There was careful care not to inform her when the training was going to be completed, and the exercises didn’t give any indication of progress, for their difficulty varied between them, some tasks being easy, some hard, some of which she was given instructions and some where she had to realise what she did for herself. One such exercise had her shipboard, on the way to yet another training ground, and told that the doors were going to be locked due to the experimental status of the ship. It took her ear against the wall to hear that she was actually just being locked in, for crewmen who were walking past were placing bets on how long it would take for her to break out. Crewmen who guessed a time of under half an hour won a good bet that day. After a year of brutal training, Kivi finally graduated. The ceremony was nothing to cheer about; she put her thumbprint on a datapad, given a pat on the shoulder and told she could have a half-day to herself. After that, it was all business yet again. There were many significant differences between operations within the Commando arm of COVSPEC and operations within the UAF, as well as in the variation of tasks. For the next few years, Kivi was doing anything from walking around in an enemy uniform to flanking an enemy and fighting with more efficiency than a standard infantryman all the way to clambering around on the external hull of a captured destroyer in order to infiltrate and save the crew. By the time she was twenty four, she was not only a killer, but a brutal, efficient, clean and expert killer. By now, her mind drifted and wandered when she slept, one day walking through a field and the next night walking through that same field, but on fire, with sheep now looking like marshmellows over a bonfire. She knew it was not real, and had developed the skill of knowing that she was asleep, but that didn’t make anything better to look at when she was having a bad dream. Assignment to the Andromeda project was purely luck of the draw. Assignment of military forces to the project was obvious, but Kivi was very surprised to find that she was one of the ones being assigned. Nevertheless, she was ready for the challenge.
Affiliations Having unpurposefully distanced herself from her family after leaving to join the UAF, and having faction-hopped several times already in her life, Kivi has gained and lost friends rapidly. She more-so affiliates herself with factions than anyone in particular, however that doesn’t mean she isn’t willing to make friends - and the Andromeda project is one-way, so she knows she’ll have to make them.
