Previous Branch The Omen Chief Engineer
Biography Varya was born in space aboard a ship called the Omen. An old Venture class light cruiser that had been retrofitted to act as a freighter. Varya was born to the ships chief engineer her mother and her father, one of the medical staff and form a young age was expected that she would follow in one of those two paths. As a child, Varya was made to work and form the day she was put to work Varya chose to work with her mother. Simply because she was a mummy’s girl and working in the engine room sounded cool to her. So was taught how to help to keep the ship running and how it worked. Something that came naturally to Varya. Slowly she grew older was introduced to more complex tasks and by 15 was one of the ships engineers working directly under her mother. Who continued to teach her daughter the skills needed to keep the ship running. Sometimes with little more than a bit of bit spit and duct tape. Varya learning the art of jury-rigging and how to make some ship parts of junk. Life aboard the Omen for Varya was fun, it was never dull as something on the ship always needed fixing, and the ship was always going somewhere and doing something. Often it was hauling cargo or passengers to another world. But at times, more exciting jobs would come up. That involved everything from surveying a planet, helping track lost ships, aiding colonies. It was always something, and it normally gave something Varya to do beyond her routine work. Varya got to see many worlds. Interact with many people. Although living aboard ship meant her education was a little delayed, as the crew charged with teaching the children things taught more useful and practical skills first. Over things like writing. She was taught how to protect herself and the ship, how to feed herself and treat common ship injuries. Over skills, the crew deemed not as crucial to keeping the Omen running. Although eventually she was taught such things. At 26 Varya’s mother stepped down from the position half getting very sick and was unable to keep up with demands of running the Omens engineering section. Varya finding herself inheriting the title. Varya taking to the title as she was quick to assert herself, to make sure none of the people now under her tried to question her new authority. Under Varya’s command, the Omens engineering team keep the ship running smoothly. Varya taking great pride in her work. To Varya, life was good, she got to see the stars and thanks to her position she was always well fed even when hard times struck the crew of the Omen. Even if the moment the ship had system failure or a problem she was first one called. But luckily for her, she had a staff to delegate to such jobs to. One day at a large orbital trade station, while shopping for new engine parts to replace some failing jury-rigged parts. Varya heard about the Andromeda project, and it intrigued her. The idea of exploring another galaxy was something she had never thought of. In the end, the call to see another galaxy was too strong, and Varya gave up her position and volunteered for the project. Figuring even if she didn’t hold any fancy degree she could easily prove herself. Given she had experience dealing with wide range of situations and was more than capable of handling herself and managing an engineering team. The choice to leave the Omen a sad one as she parted with her parents and rest of the ship's crew that were all pretty much her family. She had grown up with most of ships current crew had done and seen much with them. To Varya those people where only group of people she’d willingly die for. Although unhappy to see Varya leave the Omen the current ship captain gave her a big send of and the night ended in a rowdy party that only ended local law enforcement where called forced to it break up. Not that Varya remembers much of that night.
