Except he hops flying castles instead of trains, plays a lute while he loots and an ocarina instead of a banjo and harmonica, and he croons dark ballads about bringing anarchy rather than glory to the kingdom. Contrary to rumors he's possessed by demons, banished fairy prince or a hobgoblin trickster spirit, Talis is a fully human wizard. Though he prefers calling himself a bard. Wizards read books. Bards live stories. Before he became a dungeon punk, one man band, and started mosh pits in pits of doom Talis was a human changeling in servitude to a cruel Fey Queen. Rather than continue allowing himself to be her punchline punching bag and continue playing the Fool, the jester stopped making a mockery of himself, and made a mockery of the Queen and the Fey nobility in front of a feasting hall in her honor. She threatened to decapitate him, but his scathing satirical performance made heads roll in laughter instead. Somehow he escaped to continue mocking mock kings. Using a combination of poetry, comedy and song, Talis' tongue is sharper than any sword as he infamously is the first anarchistic bard to sing AGAINST the heroes and kingdoms sovereignty. Rather than recite ballads about his own heroism and chivalry, he prefers music and art relaying his failures and misdeeds, and he'll keep getting thrown out of taverns and kingdoms until he's overthrown this fractured fairy tale feudalism. Talis draws his wizard wit and innate arcane arts from the temporary glyph and rune tattoos winding throughout his body. He uses a form of blood magic inecting highly addictive faerie glamours into his veins which change the alchemical properties in his body. The effects of the different runes he carves into his skin fade within three days and the side effects are at least a days worth of undergoing bodily fatigue, weaker magical abilities, sleeplessness, and soul crushing depression he calls 'the blackening.' Though he tends to craft his most creative charms in the darkest moments. And eventually the after glow from the glamour mixed with blood magic returns and keeps him in constant cycles of creativity and destruction. It's not that Talis is particularly gifted when it comes to composing music, singing, or dancing. But magic is a performance for him, and like any true bard knows, it's not the tune or the melody or the rhyming scheme that matters. It's belief in the power that words can inspire others and become spells which imbues a bard with the power to create or destroy the fabric of reality. Aside from his runic tattoos, ability to see through illusions and glamour, bardic talents and enchanted instruments, Talis' main weapon of choice is a rapier style talking floating sword called Silver Tongue which occasionally hums along with his singing, snorts in laughter, or boos with whatever crowd turns against him until the only way of getting the sword to shut up is to turn it on himself and swallow it. He usually finds a disenchanted fan or tavern wench groupie to come to his aide wherever he goes.
