He had no idea where he came from, or if he even had a family. His earliest memory came from an orphanage he used to be in, located in Germany. Apparently some people had found him in the woods, not even old enough to even walk, and dropped him off in the nearest place they could find. Growing up the other kids were always scared of him, saying he was strange-looking. They weren't wrong. The boy had bright green, almost snakelike eyes. There very small patches of what appeared to be scales that had begun to reveal themselves on his skin over time. The strangest thing about him however, was the fact he had a small, forked tongue, unlike any other human would have. The older he became, the more defining and obvious these features became. It only drove him further into isolation. The staff of the orphanage were always irritated by how uncooperative he was, never wanting to leave his room and hardly ever eating. He was very sickly due to lack of nutrients. It reached the point where they grew tired of having to care for him. They thought if they kept him around, the child would die under their care and they would be blamed for it. On the day the boy turned six, the orphanage decided to get rid of him. They drove him off to the middle of nowhere, to the Black Forest, located in southwest Germany, bordering France. They told themselves this boy was clearly a freak, inhuman. It was somewhere like this that the boy had been found, it was only right that they returned him where he belonged. The boy had not even bothered to fight them, he simply did not have the strength. Still, that did not stop the fear that shook him being out in the forest all alone. Distraught, cold, hungry, and utterly alone, the boy weakly walked through the forest, just wanting to find someplace warm to sleep, but he was completely lost. At long last, he found himself a tree with a large, hollow trunk, and slept there for the night. When he awoke, he found that he was not alone, but in the presence of a smaller reptilian creature, with scales that mimicked his own. "You're in my home." It hissed, startling him slightly as he had not expected it to speak. He felt he should be startled at this new presence but he wasn't. There was.. a comfort in it, but it did not stop him from being apologetic. "I-I'm sorry.. I just wanted somewhere warm to sleep.. I-I'll go.." He muttered, crawling out of the trunk. The snake tilted it's head. "You.. can undersstand me? Human child?" The boy nodded in return. "You are not an ordinary human.. it sseems. You are a lot like uss." It responded, revealing a similar forked tongue to his own. The boy was momentarily confused but.. he understood it. They shared a lot of similar features. He felt he had more in common with this snake than anyone else he had met back at the orphanage. In that moment the snake made a decision. He decided to take the child in, teach him what he needed to know to survive. He was taught more in his time out in the forest than he had ever learned in that dreaded place. Out here he met a variety of different snakes, all who had became quick friends with him. He no longer felt alone. He felt like he had friends, a family, who actually cared and looked out for him, and as he grew older, he also tried to do the same for them, protecting them from other predators that they couldn't fight off on their own. It was throughout one of their travels that he caught wind of a bunch of noise. The snakes didn't like it, but it made him curious. He made his way to the forest's edge, through the bushes he saw things he had never laid his eyes on. Big, colorful cars, bigger than he had ever seen before. There were a lot of people gathered around outside, they seemed to be stopped for the moment. The snakes warned him to keep away, but the boy was simply too curious, after all these people looked strange. They were dressed in colorful outfits that stood out in compared to what he had seen other humans wear. It was when he had finally decided to take heed to the snakes' warnings that he was spotted. A tall man dressed in black approached him curious of finding a small ten year old boy out here all by himself, with no one but the snakes he had with him. He expressed his interest in him, feigned worry, told him that if he came with them, he could be among people who were strange just like him, that he was sure people would love to see him 'perform,' and if he came along with him, he'd have a place to calm home. The man's smile appeared kind, but the snakes warned him to turn back, but the boy could not help himself. The offer was too tempting. As long as the snakes could come with him, he agreed to the man's offer. Everything was fine, at first. He simply had to appear in front of a large crowd with his snakes, and he was praised, eventually having been given the 'name' of Snake. It was frightening, to be in front of so many people, having not been accustomed to such company in so long but.. he managed. His time of peace however, did not last. The ringmaster told him that what he was doing was not enough, that he needed to stay in a place where people could see him all the time, to appreciate his features. It was what was in the best interest of the circus, he said. Something only he could do. Snake accepted, a decision he quickly came to regret. The place he was put into was a black cage, with just enough room for him. The ringmaster warned him to not allow the snakes to bite anyone, or there would be trouble. He didn't understand why they would, but the reason soon became clear as the first day of the attraction passed. People crowded around him, poked at him with sticks. Kids tugged at his hair, demanding to see his snake-like tongue, or asking to see more of the scales on his skin. The single snake that had accompanied him sought help. At night, other snakes would come and bring him food, and attempt to keep him warm. The ringmaster had noticed the increasing amount of snakes in the cage at night, and demanded to know if he could speak with them, and whether they would listen. He wanted him to tell the snakes to do tricks to entertain the audience, because it would bring in more money. It was when Snake had refused that the harsh punishments began. Saying no got him whipped, and if the snakes tried to help him it only got worse. Finally he was forced to agree, and out of worry, the snakes complied, doing as the ringmaster wanted. They began to stay with him in his cage, afraid of what would happen if they left him alone. Sometimes birds would fly down and attempt to carry off his snakes, but he would protect them with his body, doing what he could to scare the birds off so they wouldn't take his family away. There were some good days, and there were bad days, when Snake would simply give up. Hope that someone would come and get him out of this place. Those days were the worst, and his state of depression would ruin the moods of the performances the ringmaster forced him into. Whipping was no longer an option, scarring him further would only continue to lower his value. Instead, the ringmaster forced him to drink alcohol, a way to mellow him out. For a boy just barely twelve years of age, it didn't take very much to do just that. The so called performances he could give in his drunken state were much more captivating to some, with his long, flowing golden hair and his completely flushed expression, a specific set of people found themselves desiring him. One in particular, attempted to buy him for a hefty sum of money, wanting to spend a pleasurable time with him. The ringmaster hadn't hesitated in accepting that offer, but in the night he attempted to take him away, the snakes went on a frenzy, biting and lashing out as he attempted to take him out of the cage. He was forced to give up, incredibly displeased at having to return the money he had been paid. Snake began to fear what would happen to him if he stayed here any longer. He continued to cooperate, trying his hardest to keep a clear mind with the alcohol he continued to receive, hoping that one day someone would notice his misery, and come to save him. Distinguishing Features: He has scales distributed among his body, which reflect a greenish shimmer in the sun. / Whip lashes across his back that were inflicted upon him in his previous circus, some other minor scars from getting pecked at by larger birds.
