Name: Morfinnion Age: 4,600 Gender: Male Race: Peredhel (half-elf) Appearance: Morfinnion is a tall individual with a thin but dense physique and light-brown, hazel-like skin complexion with a vibrant golden-fair hue to it. His shoulder-length, kinky jet black hair is thick with curls that sheen with the oils that he puts in them, and a small widows peak pokes out just at the top of his forehead. His face is a mix of angular and square with a slight, hinted roundness at his jaws, and his ears, although pointed, seem to stick to his skull and thus are easily covered by his hair; his eyes are a bright, deep blue speckled with bits of green that seem to pop out due to his skin complexion. When in leisure, Morfinnion often wears simple looking but extremely rich silk and linen; when travelling however, he dons his ancient, second age elvish armour, thick vambraces, and knee length spiked greaves and a dark green half cape around his left shoulder. At his hips he wears his sword belt that has two sheathed cutlasses and several packs sewn into the material of the belt. Equipment: Two cutlasses, five hidden daggers, a whetstone, flint and kindling, a bag of coins, and a rolled sleeping pad. He is extraordinarily wise, but incredibly ignorant as well. His life, filled with turmoil and tragedy has shaped who he has become. four thousand years is a long time to live, and the wisdom that comes with it is deep, like a bottomless well that benefits everything that draws from it. He is often silent and careful when picking his words and has a tendency, albeit not intentionally, to act grandfatherly towards others. His long life has also taught him to be patient almost to a fault, to such an extent he would prefer inactivity and let time resolve his issues. He also has the tendency to ponder a lot. Morfinnion is more often than not within is own mind, pondering the many things around him, and spewing philosophies at himself to try and understand, at a deeper level, the world around him. And to anyone who will listen, he will go on nonstop about his thoughts on the world and the many things he's learned. This has also, in a strange sort of way, made him an excellent diplomat of sorts; he tries to relate to those he talks with, since time has taught him, at the core almost everyone shares the same fundamental values. Then there is his tendency to be rather blunt, and at the same time, twisting the truth or not sharing all of it to his peers. Not out of trickery or any sort of malicious intent, but from the perspective that his peers do not need, or cannot handle the full truth, much like a parent concealing truths from their children. Morfinnion, just as well, is a person quick in apologizing and ready to own up to his own faults. Many would describe him as gentle, collected, and calm. And although he is all of that most of the time, he understands the need for ferocity in certain cases, and so he can be incredibly ferocious and unforgiving, as though he has become a new person filled with raw anger and pure aggression. On occasions when he does become angry, he is slow to calm down, often fuming for long periods of time in a heated show of emotion until the source of his anger is resolved. Story: Morfinnion has lived in the pastures of Rohan and secluded himself from the world for too long. One would think living several exciting lifetimes would keep one content, but Morfinnion has the sudden urge to travel Middle Earth once more. Feeling the darkness of Sauron's taint growing in the lands of Men again, he wants to go out and fight that darkness by spreading hope and love to the people of Middle Earth. But also, he misses the old days when he was part of something bigger, when he felt like he played a direct hand in the safety of countless innocents, and so he goes out to recreate the Westworld Guard, a mercenary band that once helped Gondor keep its borders safe after the War of the Final Alliance. Biography: Morfinnion was conceived in the Second Age in the human camps during the War of Elves and Sauron between a Noldor she-elf, Nauthril, and a human male, Arundel. His parents, when his mother was close to term, sought refuge in Mithlond where he was born with incredibly dark, thick hair and so his mother named him Morfinnion for it. He grew up with the other elf children in the city but his human traits made growing rather awkward. His body grew faster than the other elf children; at the age of sixteen he looked like a preteen while the others around his age still looked like children. This put him in an awkward situation where he couldn't exactly keep playing and frolicking with the other children nor could he spend time with his elders without feeling left out. And so he took to books and music, learning what he could from them and at the age of fifty, when he was given a choice between his elven or human traits, he chose his elven traits and immortality. That was also around the time he joined Lindon's military and became a scout in their forces where he learned most of his combat and survival skills. And although there weren't any wars concerning elves, there were minor conflicts over and on the borders that he got to witness, but soon after he left the service and at around 127 years of age, settled in one of Numenor's colonies on Middle Earth where he married a woman named Wendreda but unfortunately couldn't conceive any children with her; but their love was strong regardless and that was around the time he began thinking that he had made the wrong choice in choosing to remain immortal, as he was faced with the knowledge that he would inevitably outlive the love of his life. Thus, he began cherishing every moment with her, making fond memories, travelling, and enjoying her company until she grew old and breathed her last. Her death shook Morfinnion to his core and the heart break that followed drove him to the brink of death, and when he was able to recover sufficient strength, he moved to the country side and lived in seclusion until the kingdom of Gondor was found. During that time in seclusion, he would often visit his mother in Mithlond; when the world changed however, reshaped under his feet, he could not help but stay in Mithlond even longer, partly out of fear that whatever was beyond the city was reset and the new world had done away with his buried love. He stayed in the city until news came from the south that Sauron had laid siege on Minas Ithil. In response, Gil-Galad reammased his elven army and as a way to keep his mind distracted, but also to help the Men whom he shared blood with, Morfinnion rejoined the elven ranks and was placed in the 14th Company commanded by Captain Golwendir. He was designated as the squad scout and when they began to march south, the 14th and 20th Companies split off from the main force to attack the supply trains that fed the besieging army and liberate farmlands from Sauron's control. A year later however, despite their efforts, Minas Ithil was captured and word came back that they were to make their way to Rivendell. Golwendir ignored the command however and led the company towards the captured fortress. This was around the time Morfinnion was promoted to sergeant of his squad after the death of the previous one in a skirmish. When they arrived at Minas Ithil, they found it besieged by Anarion's army and so helped in that regard until it was won back a year later. Golwendir then directed the company to drive Sauron's host east out of Gondor and back into Mordor. During these particular battles, Morfinnion would often lead his squad deep into enemy camps while they slept and lay waste to as many of them as he could before retreating back and letting the main force deal with the confused forces. Although it played a small role, his raids were critical in pushing Sauron's forces further east while Gil-Galad's main army marched to join them. When the main forces finally reached them, Morfinnion was promoted to captain and placed under the command of Elrond in the vanguard during the Battle of Dagorlad and was among the first to breach the Black Gate and pushed his forces through enemy lines until they laid siege to Barad-dur. The Battle of Dagorlad was a huge victory but Morfinnion had lost many of his friends that he considered brothers as well as in the push towards Barad-dur. The siege itself was however, as Morfinnion is wont to account, an incredibly long and boring affair until the very end when Sauron joined the final battle and was subsequently defeated. With Gil-Galad gone and the line of High Kings of the elves at an end, the elves marched back to their lands. Morfinnion tried to convince the elven generals to keep some of their forces in Gondor to keep the peace in the lands of Man but they refused saying the affairs of men were their own and promptly marched back to their own kingdoms. Morfinnion couldn't abide by that logic however since he felt somewhat responsible for the safety of his kin and so he decided to stay in Osgiliath where he found the Westworld Guard, a mercenary company that had warriors from all races and backgrounds. He then joined the forces of Gondor keeping the peace in the kingdom and patrolling the borders. This went on for several decades until the company naturally disbanded and Morfinnion went back and lived in Osgiliath where he trained young warriors. This was also around the time that Morfinnion became increasingly interested in philosophy; in his free time he would often read books by many scholars on various topics and histories and would go to gatherings to talk with the various philosophers and scholars that flourished in Osgiliath during that time. Then when Elrond had a child, he left Gondor and travelled to Rivendell to celebrate his previous commander's great fortune. He stayed in Rivendell after that, enjoying the peace of the elves and partaking in their nightly festivities, lavishing in their wine, and most of all enjoying the company of the various elvish philosophers that were there, going on endless debates with them that lasted months. It was during this time that he also learned the art of diplomacy from various elven elders and his mind began to catch up with his age, where he finally began to feel, perhaps from his human side, just how long he had lived. Weariness crept into him slowly but surely and when he learned, from news by a merchant, that Mordor was stirring, memories and nightmares of the War of the Final Alliance crept back into his life. His nights were no longer filled with festivities but with discomfort and worry. He travelled back to the realms of men and remade the Westworld Guard and joined the forces of Gondor against Mordor's invading army, in part just to silence his nightmares and keep his mind occupied from going insane with regret and "what-ifs". Fortune was not on his side anymore however. With Minas Ithil now held by Mordor, the enemy, after several choince encounters, were able to easily outmanoeuvre Morfinnion and his Guards and lay a devastating trap that saw them surrounded on all sides and subsequently mowed down. He was captured along with several others as prisoners of war and tortured for information in a redoubt just off of Minas Morgul. While there, Morfinnion faced several long years of continuous torture before he and a human, Harmann, managed a brave escape with few other prisoners. After their escape Harmann informed him that he was from Rohan and Morfinnion helped him get there and was invited as a guest in his house for several days. After recuperating under the care of Harmann and his wife, Morfinnion thanked them graciously then travelled back to Mithlond and was reunited with his mother and old friends. He stayed there for several hundred years and opened a small school of philosophy. Then, his mother told him that she was going to the Grey Havens to take passage to Valinor and Morfinnion felt a deep sadness. He knew what it meant for his mother to take that voyage and although he wanted to convince her to delay it, he knew that he should let her go and he bade her a safe passage. When she left, Mithlond became empty in his eyes and so he left his home for the final time and travelled to the kingdom of Rohan and settled in a small city where he picked up a simple life of farming and horse breeding.
