With the world in shambles, Luther believes strongly in the principle of serving one's community; without everyone doing their part, it can cause setbacks for the rest of the German people. Another quality is the gentlemanly attitude he tries to portray while at work; many of the young men and boys who signed up look up to the tales of gentleman's behavior from days long forgotten. Even so, he still has remnants of his attitude as boy; rowdy, playful, and a desire to express his individualism through the music he plays. More so, he exhibits some signs of discomfort when the topic turns to the German people's status as a superior race, a trait indirectly caused by his growing up with boys of other cultures, due to the collapse of society and the requirement of those from various backgrounds working together.
[sub]Biography[/sub]
Born in the safe zone centered around the Königsplatz and outside the Brandenburg Gate, life was a struggle for the Engel family; rations were given out in a set amount regardless of the workload, work was required by all 'civilians' starting at the age of twelve, and curfews were enforced with brutal efficiency. The entirety of Berlin was plagued by loose debris, plague carriers, and mines yet to be seen. The German people believed that they truly were superior, even when there were too few of them to keep their safe zone functioning. It wasn't until Luther was four when his family was forced to flee with others in a mass exodus. Traitors to the now archaic Nazi Regime, they were seen as. What the plague carriers and other dangers in the city could not kill, the soldiers would. As few as ten to fifteen families had made it out of the "City of Hell," as they called it. Even worse was the journey; those without the strength to move were left behind in the wastelands of Germany, to be either picked apart by the ravenous hordes or worse. By the time their family had made it to Altensteig, where an even smaller safe zone had been constructed with the Altensteig Castle as it's center of administration. Luckily for the Engel family, they had made it alive in relative one-piece, with only the memories to haunt both parents's dreams. For most of Luther's life, he had only known the small safety of Altensteig's safe-zone, playing with the young boys and girls from other parts of Germany, neighboring countries, and Altensteig itself. From this city, he began to grow an appreciation to the older tastes of life, particularly of music. Though quite rare in this day and age, Luther dedicated his time whenever possible to the study of Classical music. Even better, one of his teachers had a piano in the make-shift school to practice playing. While life was typically boring compared to what it was back then, Luther had found enjoyment in the simple things. It was from this taste of Classical German music that he would meet the local recruiter for the safe-zone guard. Impressed by his love of his heritage, the man offered Luther the opportunity to find more cultural relics in the outside world. By the time he was old enough to join, Luther had taken a fascination for what lay out in the world, beyond the horrifying Black Forest. This drive to learn more fueled his training, earning him a position as a Jäger; they were once known for being ruthless in the extermination of their enemies, but now played a pivotal role in the search of old-world technology to help further their agenda in restoring the German people to their lost state. It is here that Luther takes his first steps into the outside world...

[sub][ ❇ ] M I S C E L L A N E O U S[/sub]

[sub]Gear[/sub]
• Karabiner 98 kurz - 7.92×57mm Mauser Cartridge • Walther P38 - 9×19mm Parabellum Cartridge • Sword Bayonet • Folding Shovel
[sub]Skills[/sub]
• Noteworthy discipline [s]given by the glorious, revived Deutsches Kaiserreich[/s] • Multilingual Expert • Extensive Bayonet / Sword Training • Extensive Field Survival Training • Adept piano player and Classical enthusiast
[sub]Other[/sub]
Luther has an insatiable desire to collect old scores of music in order to preserve them. All people are free to work for themselves, but each family must submit goods to their designated center in order to contribute to the local authorities supplies / funding. This in turn keeps a delicate balance between the authority of the military cabinet and the workers beneath them, solidifying both parties need of the other. However, unlike Serfdom, most civilians are allowed to take part in important matters that require voting, similarly to that of Plebians in the Roman Republic and Empire respectively. These set of rules were implanted to entice young members of various family backgrounds to raise their social status and have a stronger say in political affairs; unfortunately, there are some who do not hold as much power as others. Non-German civilians, while not entirely unable to vote, are held with some disdain by few Germans. This is a byproduct of the Nazi Regime that held control for as long as it could, seeping into future generations, if ever-so-slightly.
[sub]Military Life[/sub]
The "military" of the Zweites Deutsches Kaiserreich is more like an "advanced militia" - with so little manpower, it's hard to maintain an actual professional army. Instead, much of the Infantry work as patrolmen and guards to the makeshift walls around Altensteig, conducting searches around the perimeter of the safe-zone and keeping the peace within the walls of the town. The mortality rate tends to fluctuate depending on the activity of the plague bearers outside the safe-zone and other special cases, but is typically seen as a "common work hazard."

Officer commissions are typically only handed out to those who complete eight years of service and are recognized for their merits to the community. The added benefits of an officer is that which most who enlist seek; a higher political status in voting affairs, similar to that of a Patrician within the Roman Republic and Empire respectively. On top of the added bonus, many officers are given golden trimmings to their uniforms, as well as a torso-piece of armor to protect them. While the armor is merely just a decor piece to signify their position of authority, it has been shown to help ever-so slightly with reducing mortality rate of officers, if only against slashing attacks to their chest.

Occasionally, there are few who are given special training to become members of the Jäger Platoon, a small group of Infantrymen given permission to leave the safe-zone provided they are given clearance by their Commanding Officer. While the term 'Hunter' was originally used for Light Infantry tasked with hunting down enemy personnel, the Jäger of today are tasked with venturing out into the wilderness to find old-world tech and collect them for analysis and research, with the hopes of being able to bring back the German state to it's former glory. Valuable items can range from person to person, but most agree that electronics, machinery, and ammunition hold the greatest value. On rare cases, Non-Germans are given permission to join this force, so long as they have proven their worth within the Auxiliary Force.

There also exists another separate branch within the army - an Auxiliary Force dedicated to allowing Non-Germans a chance to prove their commitment to the Fatherland. While Non-Germans can still support it through civilian work, many are seen with distrust by select few Germans within the Patrician class. To help "integrate" them without backlash from both sides, the Militärkabinett set up an Auxiliary Force comprised entirely of Non-Germans; from Infantrymen to Officer. Ultimately, while Non-Germans are given their own command, they still answer to the Militärkabinett. When an Auxiliary member retires, they are given the same status as those who make it into an Officer role or not - there is little to gain if you do not work for it, regardless of if you are a German or not.
[sub]Politics[/sub]

Little is known of the current leader and Kaiser - many doubt his legitimacy and claim he is merely a member of the Militärkabinett. For most, he is seen as only a figurehead for the Militärkabinett to keep the German people's spirits high. Regardless, he is often seen speaking on rare occasions to his military advisors, giving them free reign of Altensteig, supposedly with his blessing. The majority of his believers are young men and boys within the military, looking up to him as a beacon of gentlemanly behavior; one of the few remaining members of the aristocracy alive. In matters of governance, the Militärkabinett holds most of the power. While most matters can be voted for, the cabinet holds the final say, but typically only step in when there has been a disagreement which backs up other issues from being presented. The political classes are divided into three groups; Plebians, which make up all of the citizenry. While having little swaying power, their large number can usually drive the higher classes to take actions according to their wishes, but are still maintained as the lower class. Patricians, which consist of families with high merit within the community, either from military service or long-time production to the town's development as a whole. Most Patricians are military officers, having gained their status through years of service to Altensteig and to the Kaiser. Very few are families that hold the right to call Altensteig their native home for generations, as most had fled or died off. Lastly, there is the Militärkabinett; as mentioned before, they typically do not get involved with the voting affairs unless required, in which case they hold the final and ultimate authority.

[sub][ ❇ ] M I S C E L L A N E O U S[/sub]

[sub]Other[/sub]
Much of the town of Altensteig was renown for it's "simplistic" look akin to that of the old days of Germany; therefore, it is no surprise much of the population believes the Black Forest to be cursed. They just might be right, as patrols have been known to disappear in the middle of the night when straying too far from the safe-zone's limits. It is taboo for anyone who might be outside the walls for any reason to go into the woods. For this reason, Jäger are ordered to never speak of the outside world, lest they forfeit their career and any bonuses along with it.
