Named as such for the hundreds of derelict vessels that rest in the cradle and lack of hospitable planets, it exists as both a graveyard for inexperienced pilots and a haven for criminals and outsiders. Born on the converted transport ship "Kestle-99", a moving city that acted as a hub for criminals, the young Juri was quickly thrust into a life of crime. Quickly earning her wings on scrap runs for the city, Juri learned she had a talent for flying ships. Traversing the cradle was difficult; traditional navigation tools were rendered useless to the anomalous space. Even so, Juri learned how to fly in the most inhospitable of places. By the age of 17, she was already a full-fledged pilot for the city. Of course, she wasn't without her faults. Flying in the dead space was stressful, difficult, and would turn any seasoned pilot's legs to jelly. Of course she would turn to stims, uppers, and general hedonism to keep herself happy. To say it was an unhealthy lifestyle would be underselling it; her arms became so infected and rotten from all of the injections that they were amputated and replaced by prosthetics. A career advancement was necessary for her to keep her hedonistic lifestyle. Flying scrap to the mothership never paid well. What did pay well, however, was flying under the empire's guns to deliver illicit goods. Drugs, guns, stolen research, and more; anything that could be smuggled was smuggled under their noses. As it turned out, Juri was really good at it. All that time flying through the cradle had taught her how to navigate undetected through space. It was an added boon that she never used the easily traceable empire tech. She found herself being constantly aligned with the rebellion. After all, they were always buying. Whether or not the charges were legitimate or not were never proven as Juri had never kept a captain's log. In the end, she was sentenced to serve life in a penal colony with all of her assets forfeited.
