Gus couldn’t fight the urge to mimic her pleasant equanimity, though he could depict that the situation was felt to be equally as awkward for her. Gus began to ignore the other presence that joined their table, fixated on the way Vivian smiled and the way she replied so cheerfully to her close friend. Gus’ smile slowly faded as he was dismissed from their conversation. Hopefully he would be able to make a friend like that here. His surroundings began to overflow into him. Vivian’s spell seemed to begin to fall short once he turned his head to register the environment he was now in. Olympus Academy housed many talented, respectable students that all posed a threat to Gus’ plan to become the new hot shot of the academy. With his objectives derailed by the realization of the school’s bright student body, he quickly tried to meld together newer and better goals for his stay here. While competitiveness is embedded in his well-being, he sought to not turn to that for satisfaction as he knew he would only end up with disappointment and failure. For a moment, Gus sat blankly, tapping his fingertips against the cool surface of the table that was garnished in muffin crumbs and eraser shavings. He quickly put his journal and pencil in his backpack, offering Vivian a smile before chiming into their conversation. “Well, Vivian, it was very nice to meet you. I actually gotta go figure out my roommate situation, too—Mom doesn’t like that I have a girl roommate,” he shrugged, “But maybe I’ll see you around.” To save from succumbing to her compelling aura, he quickly got up and left after one last nod at her. He didn’t look back, as bad as he wanted to, in order to get one last glimpse of her smile before potentially never seeing her again. Olympus Academy couldn’t be that big though, so he hoped for the time he would run into her again, and maybe not get interrupted again. With long strides, he was out the door in seconds.
